What's up peeps, I'm following a link from SHO. I just wrecked my Civic a couple of weeks ago and I'm looking at a 240 now. Actually I've had my eyes on one for a while, I just couldn't get one until I got rid of my Civic. Anyway I saw in the How-To section about auto to manual swap and how it's done. My question is how much will this cost, and is it worth it. I've got my eyes on a '93 hatch, but it's an automatic and we all know that those are no fun. I don't plan to swap motors, I just want to boost the KA. So what do the experts say about this? Thanks in advance.

Is there no chance for you to find one with a 5-speed already? That would be the easiest (of cousre) and you could have cash for some extra mod's if you wanted. I can't give you any prices. Sorry.

I'm still searching for a 5spd for sure, as a matter of fact, I'll be heading to the auction on Saturday. So far though, the aforementioned is all that I can find. Either a lot of people are holding on to their 240's, or I just can't find one in my price range. I want to just pay cash for one since I'll be using the check from my insurance settlement. Hopefully I'll even have a little left over for a couple of mods.

for all the parts, it should cost you around 500 for all the parts youneed from a junk yard, for used parts. If you h ave someone do the labor for you, the total may be quite steep, but if you can do it yourself, it's a very wise thing to do.

Well, I'm not really mechanically inclined, especially on Nissans. I was just starting to get familiar with fixing on my Civic. However there's an Army base with a DIY shop and maybe some of the guys there could help. $500 for parts isn't that bad, a lot less than I expected, but I also know that I may have to buy some parts new or recond. Is $1500 a conservative estamate taking all factors into consideration?

If you can put the transmission in yourself 1500 maybe too high a figure. It really shouldnt be bad at all even for the not so mechanically inclined. What makes it easy is the layout of the drivetrain. Alot easier than fidling with FWD transaxles. Sectioned to where you dont have to get alot of componets out of the way. Just drop the transmission and put the new one in. Things to watch out for are be sure you have the hydraulic system correct (from pedal to slave cylinder). You may want to invest in a clutch replacement line to weed out the dampner and ease installation overall. Nismo has one ($80.00) but http://www.k2rd.com has one for the FC3S (Part #141-2000 $25.00). Overall not a hard installation. If you are going to be using the DIY shop on base there will definitely be some people there that can help I'm sure. Those facilities are great. ;)
