Looks the synchros are quickly dying in my sr transmission. I plan to swap in a new(used) transmission soon. I've got an act heavy duty pressure plate and a 6 puck disk that are still good so I'm just gonna reuse them. i've got the proper alignment tool, and release/pilot bearings. Will i need any other special tools to finish the job?

all i can think of is a 3 foot extension for your ratchets. otherwise the top couple of bolts are hard to get to. If the motor's still in the car that is.

Get one of those swivels made for impact tools. It's a spehrical joint instead of a U-joint. Won't break on you and transfers torque to the bolt more smoothly. Also, much easier for socket to come off the bolt head when using U-joint.

Sperical swivel is what I used to get to the bolts on the top along with a long extension + breaker bar.

Oh and a pilot bushing puller to get your old pilot bushing out of the crank.

how many miles do you have on that pilot bushing? if you replaced it when you replaced the clutch wouldnt even worry about it. they are good for like 30k miles.

BTW, what kind of gear oil are you using in the current transmission? A couple of my buddies have had problems in the past with syncros grinding and they flushed out the transmission and put in Redline gear oil and they accaully stopped grinding.

if motors still in the car it will take a good hour to get all the bolts.....i didnt have alot of extensions and swivel bits. as for the beer, i wouldnt recomend it for the car.
