Hey. I'm about to purchase a 240sx, and never have owned one ,and not being able to talk to my father about it (he spent 11 years in a nissan delearship as a mechanic) I'm a little usure about one thing. I can only afford an automatic that is available in this area that is in good shape. And so I need to know how difficult it would be to swap a 5 speed in. I'm looking at getting a 89 240.

Thanks!

The hardest part is probably finding the transmission, the pedal, the master cylinder, and the slave cylinder. The hardlines can be custom made with tools and parts from a local auto parts store.

This is for an s14, but should give you an idea:

p.s. Do a search .

Usually automatics cost more than manual (I know it's sometimes diff w/ cars that are "HOT/in high demand"). Automatics are a luxury, enjoy them.

Your dad won't talk to you about cars? What's the use of having a mechanic for a dad?

My dad's been working evenings when i am at home, and is at home when I am either sleeping or working. I deliver furniture for Countrywide, if you've ever head of em. It's good paying, and nows the time to get a decent car before I head back to college.

Oh, and thanks again.

But I think I might be pusrchasing this '89 5 speed that looks like its in good shape. Any fatal flaws to this car, anything that is common to break down or look for? I am sold on getting one of these. I just need to know what to look for.

Another Question. What does changing the heater core on a first gen 240 entail?
