i am going to be doing a KA24de-T soon, and am just had a question. i am going to rebuild the engine and transmission before i put on the turbo kit. i am going to be shooting for about 400-450 hp. but i am only going to push it to about 350hp. i am wondering do i need to do anything to the KA transmission for it to be able to hold that much power? or does it just depend on the clutch and flywheel?

thank you

Its not so much the HP that your making, its all about the torque your putting on the ground. For instance, your Ka transmission can hold 600 hp with street tires because all your doing is spinning. However, put a set of slicks on that same 600 hp Ka and its going to fail.

450 is on the high side of the trannys ability to handle the stress. However, many people have pushed that and much more with the Ka's transmission and been ok. Its a pretty well built package, the 240.

Just boost it till it breaks, your goals are well within reason for a stock drivetrain.

Actually people with over 400hp almost never are on their original transmission if they actually push the car. There's really not much you can do to the transmission that will be cheap. Another route is to do the Mazwork 300zx swap kit. That kit with the 300zx transmission will probably totalled $1800 though....somewhere in that price range.

Cory, among a few other .Org members run stock trannys and push 500 hp.

yeah.. I wouldn't worry about 400hp doing much to your transmission. You should be fine.. I run 350whp daily and it's just fine. Wait until something actually breaks before you change it out.

there was a thread on the ORG about having your transmission gears cryo frozen. It doesnt seem to be too expensive to have done. I got quoted a little over 100$ to have all the internals cryo frozen. Along with a few new syncro's and you have a rebuilt transmission that is cheaper than the 300zx options.

so from what you guys are telling me is that the transmission will be able to hold up no problem for the power that i want to it at? it will be driven on the weekend, and pushed for drifting on streets/track. so it should be able to hold up?

what is this cryo frozen technique? what will that do? purpose wise?

are there any clutches or flywheels you can recommend for the power i want? im thinking an exedy clutch with a fidenza flywheel, but i dont know if i need a particular stage of clutch or flywheel. any suggestions?

thank you

question what do you mean by throw out bearing? what is that? is it necessary for the power that i want?

thank you

If you rebuilding your transmission and doesn't know what a throw out bearing is you mind as well STOP NOW and send your transmission to get it professionally done which range 1-2k.
