I have a 2008 G35x with 1200 miles. The shift from 2nd to third is really hard when driving even somewhat aggressively. Is this common? It happens both in auto and manumatic mode.

could you please elaborate by what you mean by shifting "hard"

do you mean the car jerks really bad when shifting...or do you mean it is hard to shift into third gear

this is pretty funny, after i posted a reply to you i went on to edmunds.com just to see if they came out with any new reviews for the g35 sedan and it actually mentions in the article that it does shift hard in third gear. so yea it's normal.

It it normal b/c Edmunds says so... is it normal b/c it's commonly seen... or is it normal b/c it's supposed to shift this way by design? If the answer to question is that it was designed to be this way, then this normal. If it's normal b/c it occurs frequently or b/c it was identified as an issue, then the issue may be more of a problem than we suspect. Can you find out the difference?

good question, personally, i'd say it's normal just because edmunds said so lol. but i rarely ever use manumatic mode and if i do it's only through second gear so i can honestly say i've never experienced this but i'll try it out on the highway later tonight when it's not raining. but i'm not sure if it was designed to be like that or not.

I'd make sure it was designed this way and not drop it. If this is unusual (which I believe it shouldn't be), it's a warranty issue that should be addressed ASAP.

The G is a beautiful car, but as you'll note from the various forums, it's also plagued with various nightmare issues (brakes, audio, poor dealership service at many places, burning oil, transmission problems, etc.).

i agree with you W66 about some of the issues some of the G's have. especially about how their is poor attitude and service from the dealerships. the service guys are usually all really cool and easy to talk to, but all the sales associates really don't do crap. took me 3 months to get them to send all the information to my county for me to get a license plate...and the only reason it took that long was because they didn't have a copy of my driver's license...which is retarded, because the day you purchase your car they copy it. they lost it and never contacted me, i had to contact them about 30 times.

Didn't a previous year G have the SAME issue from shifting from 2nd to 3rd?

ive heard that is a transmission issue but i was told it was for pre-04 models. a friend works at infiniti and drives a G and already had to replace his transmission from the hard driving because the 3rd gear block off or something of the sort. he was explaining it to me but i wasnt really listening. so for a quick understanding, it shifts hard > Grinding > Goodbye syncros > helllo new transmission. thats my understanding of what he told me but i could be wrong. i suppose its a rumor that requires more RESEARCH!! good day!
