Good day board members. I would like to know what some of you paid for transmission service. This includes, filters, gears, oil, def oil, and anything else included in just the service.

I have notice and am leaning towards the fact that my transmission is showing increased signs of wear. For instants, on idle I get a clunk/shake right where I would suspect the driver seat starts and the peddle ends under the car. I thought it was the engine but its under the car. I also noticed this clunk/shake can be duplicated going in reverse. Besides that its smooth. I was hoping a service would resolve the issue.

If the trans shifts fine then you're probably looking at a trans mount to fix the problem you listed.

Expect to pay about $100 for a trans flush, and probably an hour labor to drop the pan, clean it and clean the screen. What I would do is take the car in, have them drop the pan and clean the stuff out, then put it all back together and have them replace the fluid at the very end.

Thank you for the reply. I will am constantly keeping my ears open with this car. Hopefully after it gets to Brian he will have a better insight as to what should be done in order. I feel good the fuel pump isn't making the noise, but now I have to interview the transmission and bushings, which I can designate that capital towards.

Tough to tell with no maintenance history, no mention of an auxiliary cooler, and no mention of ATF appearance nor its condition.

Good thing you will be getting a once over at Jerry's!

Your right. Unfortunately the only history I have of the ride is that it was purchased from a dealer ship by a dealer ship . I haven't done any further research into the car due to my schedule. I work 7 days a week and evenings so it makes it tuff to break off personal time. Thats why I too am happy I will be scheduling something with Brian on Monday and he will have all day, possibly all weekend to toy with it. I am not rich, so I have to break repairs down and spread them out by urgency then move up from that point.

They should be able to advise you on a triage startegy.

Always change fluid FIRST so as not to run dirty polluted fluids through the new clean filter. A proper tans flush is new fluid, then drop pan r/r filter.

Thanks Jim, so far listening to seasoned forum members on both this Board and Benzworld has saved me thousands, in not only DIY repairs but getting screwed by bad mechanics.

Its funny because I notice telling a mechanic you are a board member of said vehicle you own, they actually talk to you different and they don't stiff you on prices, because they kinda know if you are a member you will post how their service is and you can check prices on parts.

Personally I think you should clean the pan before you change the fluid (doing a mechanical/manual flush).. you dont want to circulate pan grime into the system!

The in-transmission filter only filters large particles, so it doesnt matter because it doesnt really catch small pieces. If you're running an extrenal, I would still change the filter it afterwards.

I thought the 1994-96 transmission was redisgned with a better cooling system, so why would some one purchase an external cooler for a 94-96?

Because the OEM one is truly a heat exchanger, not an ATF cooler. it is better, but an auxilary ATF cooler is better and it is cheap.

Many later G50 owners are those someone's. Very few aren't.

the 94s definitely had increased reliability due to the dual heat exchanger but its still not adequate.. Coolant temperatures can reach 200F and thats way too hot for the transmission, but not so bad for the engine. At that rate you are just adding heat to the trans fluid.

Its $50 (one of the cheaper things for a Q) and an hour to install.. the peace of mind is priceless.
