Guys,What kind of sensor sits on top of trans bell housing and is towards the driver side? It has 3 wires coming out of it.

I have a buddy that just swapped my old ka24de into a s13. We have the sensor and plug but wires are cut and salvaged harness has no wires going to it. Just curios what it is and if its really needed. The car runs decent.

gotcha,I was thinking I could get an answer quicker here for some reason. I was thinking there would be more KA guys hanging out here that would know.

I'll post it on the technical forum.

thx,n

I had a CAS on my bellhousing (which is a ***** to tighten when its in the car with EGR) But according to the FSM it is only for OBD and doesnt control the engine whatsoever, so Id ignore it.

s13

depending on where exactly it is.

you have a few sensors

theres speed sensor ( 2 prong)reverse lights (2 prong)4th gear (2 prong)5th gear ( 2 prong)

I don't really know of any other switches or sensors on the transsmission. i have 8 of them at my house too, i'm not really sure. where exactly is it on the transmission?

The FSM says that there is also a neutral switch sensor on the transmission, which is right next to the 4th-5th gear sensors, which would flow current when transmission is in neutral, and not flow when otherwise. I've tested that switch on 3 trannies including the one on my s13 right now (all 5sp manuals), and it seems that (generalization coming up) the US models do not have the switch connected/working. It's in the same spot as the FSM describes, and it's the one switch not mentioned by you guys, so it has to be the "neutral sensor." Unfortunately it does nothing. I was going to use it to hook up to my remote starter, which right now is running on the not-so-safe "I always keep it in neutral and the e-brake pulled up when I leave the car" mode. I'll install another sensor for the shifter when I can, but for now... it really sucks that Nissan ripped us off on that neutral switch.

mattback - read the original post... "sensor sits on top of trans bell housing and is towards the driver side? It has 3 wires coming out of it."

sil80drifter - thx for the info...

The sensor seems to make no difference in performance of the car. oh well....life goes on =)

People who like money are called capitalist pigs (in some ways that is a compliment)

Nils, you are a performane pig.:)

btw, the pseudo neutral switch only has two wires coming out of it... sorry, I just can't get over the fact that my easy way to a safe remote starter was taken away from me (a month ago mind you) so... shamelessly.

im swaping a 95 ka into my 89, I dont have the transmission from the 95. i have the ecu and harness. I really dont want to drill a hole in my transmission and go buy a cas to put in. So im hoping your right with it not having anything to do with the engine performance. Also, if anyone has any info on splicing in the dash harness into the 95 harness, it would be very helpful. Thanks in advance
