I can buy a re-man from Joe and pay about what I'll pay to have mine rebuilt. The transmission shop thinks he does a better job. Who has an opinion on this?

Factory rebuild is the best option, as you get a BRAND NEW valve body from Japan and everything is to spec, done on an assembly line....

go with the factory....everybody thinks that there stuff is better than the factory. I have the same problem trying to find somebody to do a transmission drop and replace with my new LevelTen transmission and they all think that they can build a better transmission...yeah right sure you can build a Q45 transmission let alone a more racing tuned transmission and you work where...Aamaco. I don't think so.

To separate the men from the boys, just ask them to show you their transmission dyno. Believe JATCO in Tennessee has 9 at the factory {Nissans rebuild facility}.

Not every unit is tested but enough to keep a handle on quality control.......good to spot check newish employees.

We don't need no stinking dynos to check our work, will probably be the answer at most small shops. We stand behind our work till your check clears and all the buy here, pay here lots love us.

As far as we know no factory rebuilt transmission [we installed with an external cooler] has failed in anyones memory [at least in the last 4 years].

I am using one [factory reman] taken from a wreck [had around 10k] since we installed it plus 27k since in my Q that's at least 37k and it had conventional ATF at first and no first gear start till the swap to mine.

I had a factory remanned unit fail!

Damned thing just up and died on me... after ony one fluid change and 90k miles! and no cooler.

I've since seen the light: keep it cool, keep the fluid fresh. That simple

I'm definitely getting the cooler and synthetic fluid. Probably go with the factory unit.

I highly recommend you do the research and read the previous posts. I am sure you will find the information convincing, if Q45techs post above did not clinch it for you. If you are near T-3, use them.

Thanks for the input guys. Factory unit ordered from Joe. In the words of Tom Petty "the waiting is the hardest part"

90,000 miles on a rebuild anything is way beyond GOOD.Since the warranty is only 12,000 miles on rebuilt and 70k on brand new.

What could one expect for a measly $3,000.

I bought it with 100k miles on it. Yes it is original.

The problem has been a poor shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. Depending on the shift points it is somethimes better than others. Usually when I want to get on it pretty good it hesitates during the shift and then does a little two step before it shifts up.

It has gotten worse over the 55k that I have owned it. I have done several fluid changes, a pan drop and a flush with no change in performance. As some of the others here might say the damage was already done. I could have lived with it for a while longer I'm sure but being that it's the best car I've ever owned I was ready to get it in good shape again.

How many mile on the Qship?

Factory replaced mine at 98,500 ...as you did, I also invested in a 100k warranty. I'd say just based on that one repair it was not too bad an investment.

90k I had no complaints- especially since my maintenance schedule wasn't- (wasn't a schedule, that is. One fluid drain and fill, I'm ashamed to admit.)
