I have tried searching and I havn't found anything that I could really use. Does anyone rebuild SR trannys? I havn't seen to many people talking about it so I'm not sure if it is common at all. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

Considering it's basically a KA transmission with a different bell housing, I'm sure something like Kennedy Transmission could take care of.

i would think any reputable transmission shop would be able to take care of it.

however, it will be cheaper just to get a KA24DE transmission and swap the bellhousings.

How would you change the bell housing?? Cause if theres an easier way then getting a whole new transmission, Ill take that chance.. My second gear grinds.. I dont know if getting redline would make any difference.. cause I have mobil 1 in mines..

I actually got more confused because because everyone has different info. on gear ratios. I still don't know if the SR ratios are the same or different from the KA ratios.

1-4 are the same ratio. 5th gear has a slightly different ratio. The KA has a 0.759:1 ratio, where as the SR has a 0.838:1

Reverse shares the same ratio as well.

If I remember how ratios work, (which i'll probably still get these backwards cause i almost always do) you'll find better 5th gear gas since the motor makes less rotations than the output shaft.

OK folks this is what I did.

Buy a KA transmission anywhere good or bad, just make sure the input and output shafts are good but more importantsly the bearing seats on the case itself are not warps bent broken or oversized.... so basically just make sure its decent lower milage on it.

Buy the KA rebuild kit from anywhere... Nissan dealerships have them so do many other sites. Take the rebuild kit, which comes with everything you need except the actual gear sets, and seperate the synchros out of it.

Take the gear set and all synchros and go get them cryo treated, its simple inexpensive and increases the strength by 30% on steel 50% on aluminum.

Now rebuild the KA transmission or have a shop do it, you will have a fresh transmission with 30% more strength. the weak point on all sr and KA rannies is the synchros then the gears so you have eliminates that. Bingo a transmission that will hold more power and guess what you didnt spend 2 grand putting in a 300zx transmission

wel ill go down the list, this is from memory though so dont quote me but it will be ball park!!

transmission..... $75.00 (mine was working but had a shotty 2nd gear syncro)

transmission rebuild Kit... $350.00 from nissan so you can probably get it cheaper at a dif place.

Cryo.....$ I think I payed about $100.00 bucks for all syncros, gears and shafts to be done

I put it back together myself cause i had the tools and knowledge but a shop would charge you probably 200-300 maybe

Grand total 725-825 much cheaper route in my opinion and an unbeatable transmission.
