When we were installing my clutch/flywheel. We got done and realized we had for gotten to put the plate that goes behind the flywheel kinda like seal between the engine and the transmission. My question is how important is this as we have alread got it mounted up when we realized it.

That's a ballache!!! :(

I'd deffo fit it, stops crap getting into the bellhousing, it also acts as a shim, but not sure if it's critical in this respect. How big is the gap?The thought of sucking a stone or coke can into the bell housing at 100mph is a scary one.

Not sure about rain water either, or any oil leaking from the usual places.

The gap will be taken care of with a make shift plate on the outside with a small amount of JB weld or something. My main consern if the possible shim affect it might have.

I did the exact same thing. Plate was sitting under several boxes and i forgot all about it until everything was back together. You wanna know what i did.....Took it all back apart and put it back together the right way, as i also think you should. You will feel better knowing that it was done right.

do it right... the transmission might be able to flex without it... really doesn't take too long to pull the transmission. I did it in afew hours today in my driveway:)

it only took me 4 hours or so to take off the transmission, clutch and flywheel and install the new clutch/flywheel and put the transmission back on...without the aid of a jack (its rough). id say do it, its better to be safe.
