transmission question.

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

I know some of you guys have LS1's and LS2's in your 240. I was just wondering what transmission youre using?

Typically that would be the Tremec T56. I have not seen an automatic conversion.

Just a guess, but probably because it comes attached to the motor already, has a great aftermarket, and holds a lot of power? I'm not sure what exactly you're getting at w/ this question.

Viper, Mustang Cobras, LT1 powered Camaros all used a variation of it, I believe, at some point. But, it's not the exact same as the versions that came in the F-bodies. Can they be adapted? Probably, but when you can buy a complete package, there's really no need to go to the trouble.

I was just confused since the T56 was the manual transmission that came with the LS1 in all F-bodies. The only other option was the auto. I didn't know if you were wondering why people were choosing the manual over the auto or if you just didn't realize that the T56 was the transmission attached to it from the factory.

well, actually there is another reason...i know there are plenty of high performance, or just better than factory, trannys out there for muscle cars...i was wondering if it would be practical to use one of those...like say...Bowler Transmissions...?

Not to be an *******. But you came here from muscle cars and you didn't know what the t-56 was?

Almost all civic guys even know what the words "LS1" and "T-56" mean

The T-56 was used in the GTO, Vette, F-body, Cobra, Viper. The gearing ratio's being slightly different but still basically the same transmission. Holding greats amount of power without modification really needed.

Most people on here that are doing the LS1 swap are all doing swaps where there is no need to get a high performance transmission. That transmission is one of the best transmissions ever produced and put in straight out of the factory.

Just kind of surprises me you had no clue about this transmission when you say you came from muscle cars.

No need to use a different transmission at all. The one that comes with the LSx series is almost bullet proof from the factory. Just swap the clutch and roll. But again, it depends on your WHP goals. If you're aiming for 1000, plan on spending more money on the transmission and drive line then the motor itself.

i just wasnt sure if it was used along with the LS when it was swapped into a 240. like i said, im new to the import thing...i didnt know if there was some crazy awesome transmission that would be used in place of an american one. and no offense taken. i was and am a muscle car guy, mostly 60's and 70's. i never learned engine names...just cubic inch sizes...well, actually, i lied, i have come to believe that the the 454 cubic inch can be called the LS6

Yes the LS6 can be refered to the 454 CBB of the old days, but is a bit smaller displacement of 346 if talking about the one made in 00's.

Pretty sure the new Warhawk LS7 Block from World Products is capable of being bored/stroked to 454 cubic inches.

Pretty neat thread on someone who already has their hands on the block and the corresponding heads (this block has 2 EXTRA head bolts/studs PER cylinder!). Followed by a thread getting into the details on the block and how bada$$ it is.

Can you imagine 454 cubic inches and barely outweighing the KA24...the thought alone puts me at half mast

Maybe someday I'll have enough money to build an S14 drag car. If that day ever comes, that motor will be propelling it to a 7 second timeslip. I doubt I'll be the one driving, though....haha. I couldn't imagine the powerband a turbocharged 454 LS7 would have...and I have a pretty damn good imagination. :D

Powerband...anything that starts with more then 450 ftlbs of torque doesn't have a power band, it simply has power.

I've taken a small ride in a poorly tuned old iron block 454 with a single turbo that was the wrong size and even that was retarded to drive. Isn't the block alone over 10K?

A little under half that actually, but still too rich for my blood.

$4,569.95 from Summit

Well I could sell my S14 and buy just the block...lol. I think that would be a great NA motor for a really nice S14, say a 98 with all the options. Great to drive and plenty of balls.

Then again I guess thats why we're all going to the V8. I'm sticking with the old iron block myself, to cheap and to many to pass up.
