Ok this is my first post so bare with me.

1995 175K+ OEM engine 5 speed.

When in gear and engine is changeing from frontloading to backloading torque get a loud bang threw the transmission plus a lurch. I am thinking that is the clutch getting ready to go. This happens in all gears and is more noticeable in the higher RPM range. Also can hear some plate grinding noise when the car is out of gear, and shifting into gear (clutch pushed in) its alot more noticeable when the car is cold.

Not much of a gear head, but I am thinking the clutch needs to be replaced or at least the plate and flywheel. But also thinking it could be the first sign that the driveshaft is going bad. Have gotten some opinions on this but thought i would come here first.

Any ideas? And please be gentel.

sounds like your transmission's going kaputz... when was the last time you changed your transmission fluid?

oh and btw... clutch slipping is a sign of a bad clutch... basically when you're on gear, you step on the gas, but you go nowhere (like your foot is still on the clutch).

yeah well i hope it isnt the transmission. I had to go threw that BS before and thats not fun. I have been checking the fluid, but have been told diffrent things about changing the fluid. So just have been adding and not changing out completly. So kinda skiddish about changing it out completely. I am the second owner, and dont have a good idea if or when it was last changed.

might be bad carrier bearing, this is the big bearing on the middle of the drive shaft. or bad throw out bearing. no fluid in transmission or bad transmission. lift car up and check it out.

yeah... check the fluid. while your at it, you might as well change your transmission fluid. Nissan recommends you change the fluid every 10 years. use redline, their stuff works wonders.

Also, a sign of a bad throwout bearing would be the whirling sound...
