transmission question

I have been looking in to buying this S13 from a guy and everything sounded good except that he told me that the transmission has a problem. The problem is:

Sometimes first gear is hard to engage, solution:

when in stop position, push in the clutch and put the gear into second and then up into first and it will go in to first very easily.

But once I'm already rolling on first gear, shifting is flawless.

So anyone can tell me wats wrong with the transmission? and if it will be costly to get it fixed since I really dont know anything about working on cars. Thank you in advance.

Almost sounds like the synchros being as you can't shift directly to first and you have to double clutch it to get it to go into first. As for how much it'd cost to fix it, no clue.

oh and will that be the only possible reason why it wont go to first?

it's going to be either the synchros or the shift fork.

i'd think it'd be a long shot that it's the shift fork...like if it's bent or somethin...cuz well, it seems that if it was bent that ti would still be hard to get into gear from second too

synchros sounds about right though

just buy a junk yard transmission. i got one for my 90 hatch for 150 dollars after i twisted my main shaft.:batman
