What are if any the symptoms of an overheating transmission?

Just was thinking today and wanted to learn more

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Besides a change in color or smell of ATF you could measure the fluid temperature but the ATF look is the main clue. As the overheat would have been in the past at idle.

Ok Fluid is good but would there be any operating symptoms?

My car soemtimes hesitates when it is hotter and been running for awhile.

I am assuming I may have an injector going and just wanted to make sure that the transmission would not exhibit any physical symptoms

Thanks Q45tech

ps got one rotor to .002 and the other I have to get shims. Unfortunately I cannot find. May have to buy shim stock and make myself

Have you checked the hubs for runout,,,they need to be within 0.001" of true and bright shiny no rust or corrosion....they can be ground down a little.

The transmission will only show up as long shifts or shudder at 1500 rpm [from TC or lockup problems.

Lots of pages on wonderful test [pressure] in service manual.

I have noticed, living in Chicago with our broad range of weather, that my J reacts significantly to temperature and humidity. During very hot and humid spells, my mileage can drop by more than 10% due to AC use and spark retard. This engine retard and AC power diversion can make throttle response seem sluggish compared to response in cool dry conditions. The good news is that I have never seen my mileage drop lower than 19mpg with AC use and my normal spirited driving style.

my friends put a new radiator in his car and forgot to hook up the hose that went to the transmission to cool it. he drove it for about a month and one day e said it was shifting harder and it started to chirp the tires in 3rd. then later that night, car wouldnt move, found out that the transmission overheated and burned everything up. it was going to be like $2K to fix
