I have a 1990 s13, and my transmission always pops out of 2nd gear, and sometimes 4th. this happens when im coasting while in gear and sometimes when im pushing on the breaks, never while accelerating. any ideas on what my problem is and any idea on the cost to fix??? BTW its a manual transmission...

If it is a KA, I would just grab another one and swap it in. They're pretty darn cheap and a relatively easy swap.

This.

They are everywhere and dirt cheap. Find one locally and toss it on. Done.

Usually this problem comes from bent shift forks. I would probably just put a new transmission in, it would save you a fair amount of down time. If you REALLY want to tear into your transmission, you can check out the FSM www.nicoclub.com/FSM and see what is involved with changing out the shift forks. You'll also want to check the coupling rings and where they interface with the gears themselves to make sure that everything is in good shape.

In all honesty, it will probably be cheaper and easier to just pick up another transmission. If you have any questions about what you need to do, we are here to help you.

is it possible that this is something simple??? like possibly a clutch that wont fully engage??? or any thing? because my clutch pedal has always been so loose that sometimes the pedal wont pup back up all the way... i dont know if this could be related to my issue or not....

Unfortunately, popping out of gear is always an internal issue. As far as the clutch goes, I'd replace it while it's all apart unless it is reasonably new. Wish I had better news for you, but at least you should be able to find a good transmission for under a few hundred.

Edit: Phone does some weird auto-competes

The only thing I can think of that would be super simple is a mis-installed shifter. One of my RB cars has a STS that was not put in properly and it jumped out of reverse a lot.
