My 94 Q gearchange sticks from 1st to 2nd, to the point it goes to the rev limiter before changing. It also flares when changing from 2nd back to 1st, causing wheel chirps & spins in hard acceleration.

Not being very versed on Transmissions, does anyone know the exact cause?

Service History. Had the oil changed (transmission) about 3 times this year & the last time included a full flush & filter change etc, & found no metal, BUT, there was a piece of what looked like Band Material, about 1/2 inch square in the sump. Didn't look bad enough to cause the problem I'm getting, but it just may be!

Just making sure there ain't a simple fix before removing box & overhauling.

Chally,

How many kilometers do you have on the trans? Are you running a cooler?

Chally: Some dudes on this website think it's cool to run it up to redline all the time before shifts!!! Seriously, there is a test to run on the transmission electrical systems which will indicate if the system is OK. Check your manual around pages AT 43-45. It's a very simple procedure that checks a number of systems. Don't pull that beast out until you know its toast.

Doug-- That only tests electrical components, it wont tell you if its "toast" or not....... It could be gone, but the electrics could still work fine, and it'd say OK........

Still a good thing to run though....... It could be a shift solenoid or something.......

Sorry for the late replys, but I haven't been notified by email. Must've got someting wrong...

Sijoko, I've got 140,000Ks & I do have a cooler.

Doug45, I've done that test & all reads OK. It feels like the Valve body is sticky. I've had the pan off & couldn't find any adjustments, so I'm sure I'll probably have to take it apart.

I was just hoping that someone has had the same problem & could tell me it was something easy... gotta dream eh? :D
