transmission problems after bellhousing swap

ok so heres the deal. i've got a 96 240 5 speed that i'm swapping for a 92 5 speed. I had to swap the bellhousing because apparently on the 96 there is a crankshaft position sensor on the bellhousing and not on the 92. so the bellhousing swap went fine the only problem now is the only gear i can get the transmission to go into is fifth. it's gonna be sittin in my garage until i fix it so any advice that you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
