transmission Problem???

It seems like everytime I start up my 240 there seem to be air comming out of my shift booth. and when I step on the clutch it goes away.. Let go of the clutch and air comes out again. It's just like a hissing sound though. Anyone else have the same problem.? I have heard that you need gear oil if that happens but I'm not sure.. Anything would be helpful... Thanks
