transmission Problem

all of my gears work fine besides my 5th. when i put it into 5th, it will stay in for 3secs and pop out. i can hold it there if im at a steady speed, and as soon as i speed it, it will force it out. does that mean my transmission is going out

that sounds like the syncros for 5th gear. call nissan and ask a tech to be sure. If so can be fixed.

mine started that way.. then it went to first, then it went to 2nd.. then reverse wouldnt work. so i finally swapped trannies, when i checke the old one [out of sick curiosity] i opened the fluid release screw [whatever its called] under the transmission and the nasty smelling 'liquid metal' came out full of little metal chunks. [BAD NEWS] its supposed to be fairly clear liquid, i mean its only gear oil for cryin out loud.... anyway, maybe that helps.. check to be sure

well yesterday after 2 weeks, my 5th gear works agin, the car sat all last week in snow and it was cold out, but now it works agin

not for long. its just because of the high viscosity of the cold fluid. when the transmission warms up, its gonna do it again.

i don't its the synchro, cuz if you were able to put it in and then it poped out it should be something else, if it was the synchro then i don't think you'd be able to put it in 5th gear in the first place, unless you double clutched. thats just my guess
