hey guys im a usual member here. Well anyways my bro is having some major transmission issues with his car and I wont be home til the 17th to help. He posted on g20.net. haha but chances are nistech will have an answer. Here's his dilema:

"First and foremost you guys on this forum are always their to help out your fellow g20 members in times of trouble, again i just want to say THANKS!!!...Just today my transmission(lsd) took a crap on me, i can't tell if it's my clutch or transmission? This is used lsd transmission that i bought with about 45,000 miles back in september-october of 2004. i had bought it to replace the previous transmission that had the famous fifth gear pop out.Apparently earlier on this past week, the symptoms began. I would step on the clutch, but it would not engage in any of the gears(1,2,3,4,5th, and reverse). Earlier on i thought it was nothing major, then i just played with the gear, the next minute the gear engaged respectively, into place. Then as im going to the grocery market, the car decides to finally stop engaging in gear . I tried tightening the cable, does not work. I have tried turning off the vehicle, and accomdating it in gear, as i turned on the car, i hear this loud grind, and at the same time i would try to get out of gear into neutral while the clutch is stepped all the way in, it seemed it is stuck in gear, and difficult to force out? Any ideas ? I had replace the shift bushings. The transmission fluid was change at about the same time. I checked for transmission leaks...nothing. I had replace the previous transmission back when the car was at about 142,000. The car now has exactly 162,516miles. The place where i had bought the transmission from has a good reputation in importing jdm engines and transmissions. Prior to the transmission swap, i had bought an excedy clutch, but i recalled instead on buying a new flywheel, i only had it resurfaced!!! Is there anything i may have missed out, or anything above i had mention might be a culprit, in preventing the car to go in gear or reverse? Again it would be greatly appreciated....(kinda suck that it had to happen right before im planning on setting up my turbo for the summer )"

please get back or post a reply. any help would be great. thanks again guys! peace...

This is odd, I am reading this as saying the car seems to be stuck in gear and you cant get it out ,with or without the car running. My best guess would be that either a detent has fallen out allowing it to go into 2 gears at once or one of the hubs has over run the gear and weadged against it. I would go more for the first one, in either case the trans will need to come apart to fix the problem.

If it is not stuck in gear with the car off.And he is able to shift the car in any gear when the car is off then I am leaning to clutch problem.

its obviously a clutch release problem then, once you get the trans out look at your throwout bearing real good, look at your pressure plate ,is it mounted correctly? hows the dist look? those kinda things. Its not internal trans so no need to tear the trans apart. Just pull it out and inspect all your clutch components real closely, I suspect you will see the problem immediatly upon pulling it.
