transmission problem. Manual mode - changes to D

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Ok, here is a weird problem I`m having right now with my 2008 EX35 AWD. This morning while heading to work, I put the car in M mode which I normally do everyday eversince I bought the car. While in the Manual mode, I glanced at the indicator number on the dash which gear I was at. Then I notice after 5 minutes of driving, I tried to upshift it from 3rd to 4th and I was surpised that the indicator on the dash shows D ???? Car would not upshift or downshift on Manual mode. It appears that my Manual mode becomes D mode. I moved the shifter to normal D mode (to the right) and moved it back to DS/Manual mode(shifter to left), and still shows D.

When I arrived at work , I turned the car of and restart, moved the shifter to D while holding the break and moved the shifter to DS/manual. It shows gear 1 and a few sec, it changed to D with out me shifting anything. I turned it off again and restart and went everything to normal. Then when I left work, It did it again. I don`t have DS/Manual mode in my transmission. Both side of the shifter, says D. The car drives fine on D, except I`m not used to driving in D mode, and cars is not very responsive. I called Infiniti and will schedule for service. WTF! anyone has this problem? I don`t have any engine check or transmission light warning showing on the dash... :werd:

I searched the web and this problem seems to be known on G35 also. They said it`s the switch assembly under the shifter causes this problem. Not sure though.

UPDATE: After driving the car for 2 days in D mode only. This morning, it came back to normal. Now my manual mode is working again. I`m not sure what`s going on here?

Good to hear that it went back to normal....weird......did you wash your interior lately....or spill a drink to get the area around the gear selector wet ?

No spills around the selector and I did not clean the interior lately. Really weird issue I guess? I bet it will come back anytime soon. As long as it`s under warranty, I don`t mind it. I just miss the power on M mode...

Car is fixed now, changed shifter assembly. NO more problem. Tech said there is no way to reset the transmission learning curve. But I noticed when driving in D mode, it`s a bit better than before.
It used to haunt gears when driving in D mode. I`m not sure if he reset something there...
