Hey guys ..I was changing the oil in my J30 over the weekend and thought I would check the AT fluid while i had the hood up ..Motor warmed up.. Went through all the gears then put it in park ..Idleing

Check the dip stick and it had fluid several inches above the hash marks ???

What gives ?transmission seems just fine .This is the first time Ive checked the AT Fluid ..

Don;t drive with an overfilled transmission especially in the J, over time you will have permananent damage due to the heat build up. I would drain the excess fluid and bring it to normal level.

So it isnt a sign of a problem ??Cant believe it was overfilled that much.Go figure ..I will probably drain it via the pan drain plug and top it off with new fluid. I read somewhere draining the pan just lets about half of the total fluid out ..Sound right?

Unless your transmission is shifting weird it isn;t a problem. However I would drain the excess transmission liquid ASAP.

My advice is drive it around your neighborhood and let your car get to a good operating temp then check your fluid again. You'll get a bad reading if your car is not fully warmed up.If so drain some asap. Also when you drop the pan you do not get all the fluid out

It was up to temp.I drove it about 5 miles up mainstreet and back. The only thing Ive noticed is the transmission tends to go from 1st to third when Im giving it about 3/4 throttle. Done that since day 1 . Figured it was "Learned" from the origianl owner .Thanks guys . will drain it down tonight.
