Flush the fluid if you haven't recently!

Check the service history and receipts on when the transmission fluid was replaced. If it doesn't show any then save up for a transmission. Check all the electrical sensors using the AT-CHECK.

Seriously get a lot of transmission fluid and drain and refill. Run the car in every gear for 2 min then shut off right away. drain and repeat.

I just did it today and I felt a difference right away!

Then install a Magnefine filter to filter even more out.

Sorry my post would have been more helpful but i am tired as hell.

When my Q45 had difficulty shifting out of 1st it was a bad turbine revolution sensor. There's a self-test that can be performed with the engine off sitting in the driver's seat. If it brings up any codes you can then perform the ohm test of the bundle of sensors the end of the transmission. See the transmission section of the FSM for the self-check and sensor resistance checks. These are the external sensors that you'll be measuring so replacement is pretty easy.

Paul's advice is sound. Clean transmission fluid is a must to keep it shifting smoothly. Is your fluid red or brown?

Good idea to drop the pan after the first drain.
Replace the filer and Oring.
See how much clutch material you clean out of the pan.
Then install new gasket and replace bolts using the proper sequence and torque.

Check and adjust the TPS output voltage to between 4.25 and 4.50 VDC (mine was 4.38 the last time I checked). Save any changes by momentarily disconnecting and reconnecting the TPS connector with the engine running.

Read this material first.

Do the above ONLY after the engine is fully warmed up, with ignition on.

Are we talking about the AT-CHECK light?

Mike (Goody90Q45) tested the sensors (Revolution, Turbine Revolution, A/T Solenoids and Inhibitor switch harness) He didn't test all of them but you should.

And sometimes you need to lookup all the receipts and service history and see every when it was flushed. If never to once or twice then I am sorry because you might be stuck with THE BILL (new transmission). But no need to worry until you check those sensors with a multimeter as shown in the service manual: Nicoclub.com/FSM

Slipping after a turn sounds like the Fluid is way low.
Starving a transmission is a quick way to fry it !!
Have you checked the level lately ?

Well the other thing is that JATCO (Nissan transmission re-builder) give you a 12(month)/12(miles warranty) even though most, close to all transmissions last 7-10 years with proper maintenance. Funny thing is that the half a** repair shop you want to gets paid 2x if not more than the regular worker at JATCO. Most transmission "repair shops" change out the easiest stuff and leave the hard stuff ALL ORIGINAL. Very sad but very true.

FYI .
At least here in Texas , If only 2 components are replaced its considered a rebuild.
