my car drips gear oil where the transmission meets motor. its not much when parked, but i dont know how much is coming out when driving. as soon as i pull it into my garage there is at least a tablespoon of gear oil each time. after the trans cools it stops. could it be input shaft seaL AND IF IT IS WHAT DO I ASK FOR AT NAPA.

apparently we missed that on the build.

Sounds like your rear main/crankshaft seal

Be sure about this, is it gear oil or engine oil? There is no mistaking the onionesque-sneaker funk of 80/90. If it is gear oil input shaft seal on the transmission. If it is engine oil it may be the rear output seal or the oil pan silicone seal or, and check this first, your valvecover seals. CAs and RBs love to leak at the valvecovers and it eventually ends up at the bottom and on the floor. I am sure you would rather tighten down the valvecovers than replace a rear main so confirm it isn't those before suspecting the pan or rear main.

when i removed my valve covers to paint them, one of the half plugs fell out of the back and it leaked from there. usually, but not always, if it's leaking from the valve cover, you'll see or smell motor oil burning. right now, if it's a very slow leak and you can see it from the underside of the car it sounds like a rear main. mine's doing this sort of old horror movie monster ooze from the same place and it's definately motor oil, so i'm pretty sure napa's gaskets are crap because i replaced all the gaskets when i put the motor in a year ago and it oozes all over now. hope this helps, but i wouldn't worry about it to much as long as you check your engine oil frequently. And to second, make sure it's gear oil because "There is no mistaking the onionesque-sneaker funk of 80/90"

yeah its def gear oil. i did check all my valve cover bolts and they were all fine. i thought it could be dripping from somewhere else too and just meeting there at the bottom. i guess i really need to get it on a lift to check it out. if its the input shaft seal what do i ask for at local parts store?
