I got a new master and slave a month ago. But I still get quirky shifting. At all times, second gear is a little weird to go into. When it's cold, it sometimes won't even down shift into second from third. It either won't go in, or grinds a little. usually, when upshifting to second when it's cold, I get a little resistance or a slight knock. What's up? Also, sometimes it doesn't engage reverse from a parked position. Thanks. Tek.

Well if the clutch is adjusted properly and there are no leaks and its all bled right... its the transmission man Sounds like worn syncros to me. Instead of redline or anything like that, try using BGSyncroshift synthetic. It works very very very well for that very purpose. you can get it for a pretty cheap at http://www.roadraceengineering.com good luck,

Austin

Thanks. Curious though. I've never done any transmission work, just minor stuff. How do I go about getting the transmission adjusted, if it needs it? Thanks for your patience with a newb. Peace. Tek

I've had some shifting issues as well since my slave cylinder and clutch was recently replaced. The first issue for you to make sure is that the hydraulic clutch system is working correctly, and as candela says, if it is, then the issue is inside the transmission.

You can adjust the clutch via the master cylinder pushrod. Look underneath your dash, follow the clutch pedal up to the U shaped clevis pin, and the bolt from the firewall that threads into the U is the master cylinder pushrod. If you go to 240sx.org, underneath their faq there is clutch service pics. It'll show you what it looks like.

Also make sure the system is bled correctly. Those pics also show you how to do that.

One thing to try real quick, can you shift when your clutch pedal isn't all the way to the floor, but partially engaged?

Thanks for your help. Yes, I can shift when the clutch is only partially out. I'm at work, but I will check out that other stuff when I get home. Thanks again for the input. I hope all I need to do is adjust that pushrod. PEACE. Tek.

I think so...if it seems to be slipping a bit when you have the clutch pedal all the way down (say engine revs drop when u do that), and able to shift when it's partially, then it may be adjusted too far out. Just loosen the bolt (12 mm I believe) behind the clevis pin, then use pliers to turn the bolt into the pin. Just remember where u had it before in case that isn't the solution;-)
