HI, I have a 91 pathfinder, auto, 4x4

I honestly have no idea what im talking about when it comes to this kind of thing. if i sit in it and slowly accelerate, at about 4000rpms it starts to try to move. then i feel bad for my motor and let it rest.

I heard something about the transmission fluid pump, maybe the truck is not getting enough fluid into the transmission? how can i test that the transmission is getting the right amount of fluid??? Or what can i check?

Thanks

Can you go anywhere if you place the auto trans gear selector in 1st or 2nd? Reverse? See what you get and go from there.

I believe your transmission as ate itself. I believe those years had issues with the transmission not getting cooled well enough. Probably will have to replace transmission and get an aftermarket transmission cooler to not burn the next one out.

Thanks for the quick reply(s)...All gears, even reverse, i would have to rev it to past 4000 rpm, but it barly moves anyways... the fastest i probally got it was about 2km... after reving it about 4500 rpm and took about 20 seconds. It does the same for all the gears.

Thanks....

May be a stupid question, but did you check the fluid level?Sometimes a transmission flush can also bring back the transmission, at least for a little while.

The transmission fluid is actually over filled when its cold, but I will give a flush a try. The fluid seems to be okay though, Should I put new fluid or flush it and put the right amount???

Thanks

Definitely drain some out to the correct level when cold and see what happens. I'm starting to think your torque convertor might be the culprit.

I will drain the fluid tonight or whenever I get a chance, but when you think its the torque convertor might be the culprit. Is that a big job?

Well, you're getting major slippage (if even contacting at all!) on your clutches. There are lots of things to check on, Right fluid? Right amount?

I've had my transmission unclog some junk and then start slipping like crazy, but it wouldn't even stay in the higher gears but I could move the vehicle. I highly doubt you've got a good working transmission.

You can try and flush and refill and see what it does, but my hunch is you'd be wasting your time and money and anything you do for this rig is going to be a big job to fix what you've got wrong.
