transmission Issues?!?!?! 2 questions total.

Right. My ride is running like crap, but I kinda expected that after sitting for so long. I have two burning questions.

First.

Is it possible to have problems with 2nd and 5th gears, but not have problems w/ any of the others? I read somewhere that CA trannies start having issues w/ 4th gear after a while and later on 5th gear starts to flake out. Anyway, 2nd is dificult to ride at low RPMS without jerking (could be related to my other question) and 5th makes a horrible vibration like I am driving a giant dildo or something.

Second.

The car idles really rough until it gets up to operating temp. If I do not give it gas to put the RPMs up a bit, it sputters like it wants to quit. Once it warms up, it idles around 1200-1700 RPMs. I find that to be a bit strange. I thought a "normal" idle was somewhere between 800-1000 RPMs.

I plan on making the shop at the base do some tests to diagnose what the deal is w/ my car, but I told them to give it good once over while I was in Afghanistan and that didn't happen. By the way, I have a break in the exhaust somewhere up front near the turbo. And the valve covers are black fron all of the dirt and crud in the engine bay. Hopefully the compression tests are ok and my leaks are minimal. I know there is an oil leak somewhere, but it is only a small spot on the parking space if I leave it over night.

I find more and more people talk about having stuttering/stalling problems while having an exhaust leak anywhere from the turbo flange to the exhaust manifold/head.

I too had an issue like this and it was cured once I got rid of the exhaust leak.

I'm not saying that is the cure-all but it could be your culprit.

Looks like I am going to have to get these installed ASAP to eliminate a suspect mani or turbo.









If I need replacement bolts or gaskets, is there somewhere I can order them online? I am in Naples, Italy and they barely stock stuff for recent cars.
