mac, there's a mechanics saying - "a car driven only one day of the week for a hundred miles, will last for ever".
TIME .TIME.TIME.No "excercise" can be bad for car ,like for people. I got a car not driven , hardly for two years(head gaskets) the trans just doesn't act the same. Dozens of fluid circuits, some accumulators , check-balls,clutches,seals,o-rings,rubber diaphram like in the modulator etc. Mine made a weird noise running in 1st - had to "run it out" to sound just a little better. Just going through the shift positions I probably "loosened" some varnish? I realize I'm not coming up with a "definitive answer" but your shops taking a year will be hard pressed to easily find out if they actually caused Neglectful , or abusive / intentional "beating" the car? Without like a tear-down , you know "post-mortem" exam of trans componants , this isn't Princess Diana's Limo we're investigating

So something like that external modulator replaced , pan drop/trans fluid & filter change is like otta be tried first .
