So after an amazing run last Saturday I overheated my transmission or oil. It would not allow me to down shift and when I attempted to accelerate it was not really responding.

Has anyone else been pushing their altima to this point? I see the oil cooler on Stillens site. Has anyone tried it? Has anyone tried to install a transmission cooler for the CVT?

I haven't installed a cooler, but I'd be interested in hearing from those who did. I got bored in heavy traffic and started driving in manual mode. Some time later, shifts were very sluggish.

I have had the same thing happen to me a couple times after long periods of high speed driving. At first I thought the transmission was broken, but after reading the manual it looks like it is a protection mode. Take a look in the manual in the section about the transmission and shifting. Its called High Fluid Temperature Protection Mode. It reduces engine power and speed.

I too have been looking around to see if anyone has installed a transmission cooler or some other solution. Does anyone know how the cvt transmission is cooled? What is the optimum operating temperature? Has anyone installed a transmisson fluid temp. gauge?

Average temp for me is 180-220... Getting past 220 isn't so great and if you go past 240 your trans will roast itself.
