well i was driving yesterday and everything was fine, i havent had any problems out of it. and out of no were it was stuck in 3erd. So i gave the shifter a tuge and it jerked out. well i pushed it into 1st and it was a little hard, took off from the light normal and when i tried to shift to 2end brick wall. so i pulled over to the side of the road and tried to go through the gears and found that the only gears i can go in are all the ones closes to the radio 1sd 3erd 5th. i get brick wall on 2nd 4th and R. it will not even start to go in, like their is not even anything their. i have not had any issues with this transmission and it dose not even have 40k on the motor set acording to the cluster that was in the half cut the motor came from. any ideas?????

damn dude, reading that made my head hurt...

start with the basics, make sure your clutch is bled and working properly and make sure your fluid is good and filled right.

unfortunately this is usually a serious problem, because 2nd and 4th are on the same "rod" inside the transmission but make sure youve eliminated everything else before you jump to conclusions

Almost sounds to me like your clutch slave cylinder **** the bed, but I can't figure out why it would go in some of the gears and not others. Maybe broken shift fork, but check the slave first. Do you have an aftermarket clutch? Can you hear it "jingle" when you press the clutch?

Sounds exactly like my problem i had ages ago when my 3rd and 4th gear shift fork snapped into tiny pieces leaving me in third gear, and having to go home 5 miles in stop and go traffic all in third.

depend on how big your hammer is and if you have a good set of snap ring pliers.

no dude. did you not listen?

make 100% sure that all the exterior problems are eliminated first. all your clutch stuff, and shifter mechanism needs to be inspected.

I have checked the slave and clutch components along with the shifter. I have removed the shifter and inspected the bushing and rod.

I posted up to see if this has happened to anyone else and to see if there was an easy solution. I have checked everything. That’s why I am resulting in checking to see if a fork is bent or something.

There was a thread a little while ago where someone pulled apart an rb25 trans, had alot of pictures. He was comparing it with the 300zx trans to, I believe the internals are the same.

well im glad i desided to tear it down, a snap ring and washer some how cam off the rod that holds the shifting forks, and was just laying in the cover when i removed it. This is why i couldnt pull the shifter into the bottom gears. it was hitting the washer and snap ring.

pulled it all the way apart just to inspect the inards lol

and then reinstalled and checked everything. This is how it is soposed to be

Thanks guys for the link, it really helped me out
