transmission has a hard time going into first

This problem's not with my car but with my buddy's car. He's having some issues getting into first. If he just tries to go, it's like the gate doesn't even open for first and has to start in 2nd. He said that if he rolls back, or gives a blip of gas to get the rpms to go up then back down, that he's able to engage 1st. The other thing that's weird is that if he hits his shifter to his right a few times that he's able to engage a gear smoothly, whereas if he doesn't it occasionally grinds or is rough going into gear. Any of you guys have this problem?

Syncros are probably shot tos hit.

damn. Well the thing is that he's able to get into second without a problem. It's always consistantly first. but if it is the synchro i think my buddy's in for another transmission ha ha ha.

1st 2nd and 3rd kinda suck in my car.4th and 5th work well.

reverse is sometimes really hard to get into.
