transmission going

My 1996 Q45T is at 195,000 miles and this week the transmission is periodically not engaging in reverse. The car still runs great and the interior is in great shape. Just wondering what options I have. Buying a used transmission doesn't seem like a good idea and I don't really want to pay $2,500 to $3,000 to have it rebuilt. If anyone has any other suggestions I am all ears.

ahhh the fork in the road time.......spend $2500-3000 to fix it correctly or dump it???? Tough decision considering the age of the car. Personally,when my 96 requires a major parts replacement like a transmission,I think it will be time to move on to something more modern and fuel efficient.
