You need to use Nissan Matic D transmission fluid, that is the recommended fluid for Nissan automatic transmissions. If you use Dextron/Mercon/etc you run the risk of improper operation and/or dmamge to the internals.

You can do a drain and fill or a flush. Drain and fill is basically dropping the pan on the bottom of the trans then refilling. You won't be able to get all the old fluid out using this method, so you'll end up contaminating the new fluid that you use to refill.

Or you can do a flush, which means hooking it up to a machine and changing all the fluid in the trans. You'll have to take it to a shop to have the flush done properly.

thx scott. i have a infiniti i30 do i still use that nissan type transmission fluid? and how much am I lookin to pay for a flush and replacement. also they said my coolant was reading at 20 degrees (dangerous level) it spose to be -33. since i replaced my exhaust I havent had any coolant leaks. before i changed it I would lose all my fluid while it was parked. I have no idea why but that is the case. I thought I had to replace water pump but like I said I havent lost 1 drip in the past week. does that make any sense at all..thx for help..get back to me lata

Yes, you'll still use the Matic D fluid. I would suggest calling your local Nissan/Infiniti dealers and see who gives you the best price.

That's definitly some weird stuff with the coolant leak. I'd just keep a close eye on your temp gauge while driving, and check the level daily to see if it starts up again. I guess it's good news about the water pump though.
