I just recently changed my Torque converter on my J30 due to a shimmy, noise at higher revs and hesitation. This all developed after having the cars transmission flushed and not changing the filter and having the pan dropped and cleaned.

I did a pan drop myself an did notice metal in the pan with sludge

I tool it ot a local shop and had the whole transmission inspected for damage, seems like I saved the transmission by getting it inspected.

My moral is that I did not follow the recommendations of this panel (I follwoed the BG standard the mechanic recommended) and feel that something was dislodged during the process and got into the TC thus causeing it to fail. You cannot see what is in the pan when they just flush, the local transmission shop asked me if I had a flush done in the last year and he was right. He sees this problem regularly and never services a transmission without a pan drop

Whenever doing a transmission flush always followup with a pan drop and filter change. It can mean the difference between maint and a semi major repair.

I hope that this helps others in the future.

I just was at Grubbs Infiniti. I asked them to do transmission filter replacement after the flush. They said this part is non-servicable. To replace filter requires to dissassemble some part of the transmission (don't remember name) and it's over $400 job. This is for 97Q45. Is this true? I asked if it's different from the 1st gen Q and they said yes. Gurus, please help me to find out if Grubbs Infinti qualified to do more than just oil change.

I admit my experience with 97+ is limited to this board, but..

I understand that the transmission of the 97+ and 90-93+94/94 are all nearly identical ,except for ratios and some reliability differences. So for there to be such a big difference between a 96 and 97 would fly in the face of what we know of the transmission's being nearly the same.

dealers often say that filters are non servicable (for all model years) but scottsdale sells tons of gasket and filter kits for all sorts of Q model years and for good reason.

So in summary my answer is: they are wrong and I would bet money on it, but in the interest of the pristine accuracy reputation that NICO has earned, we should wait on one of our real Gurus to verify.

U didnt get screwed, those grubbs guys claimed that his wasnt servicable specifically cuz, it was a97+ Q.

A claim I am pretty sure is incorrect.
