transmission Fluid question

Ive searched, but i cant find what im looking for. I have a 5sp transmission on my 89, and when i take the shifter out, is there a way to tell if its full without going underneth? Like how high should if be if im looking in there, and also if my transmission is hard to shift gears when its cold out, sould half motor oil and transmission fluid help. Thanks

There really is no way of telling because there is no dipstick of any sorts. Your supposed to measure out the oil before you pour it in. If you really feal it needs oil, drain it and put in all new oil as specified in the Factory Service Manual.

All 5 speeds are harder to shift when it's cold.

No, there is a way to tell. It is called the check/fill plug. This is very basic. There is a bolt on the side of the transmission with a fitting for a 1/2 inch ratchet. Remove this bolt and stick your finger in. If you can feel transmission fluid you are fine, if you cannot, add fluid through that hole until it runs out the side, put the bolt back in and you're ready to rock and roll. This is VERY BASIC.
