Yeah so after practically finishing my 5 speed swap, I filled my transmission with 3 qts (yeah I know I'm kicking myself) of Mobil 1 Synthetic Fluid. Ok so I got 2 questions that I couldn't seem to find. First, I read on the bottle after I put the mobil 1 in is that the bottle says exceeds GL5 ratings, and I know that the transmission likes GL4 fluid. Now since it's synthetic is it actually GL5, or something else. Basically is this gear oil gonna ruin my trannsmission?

My second question is how much would that extra .5L hurt, do you think it would blow out any seals? I really don't wanna drain the stuff, is it possible to suck out through the shifter hole?

Any help would be greatfully appreciated, I go home again in a couple weeks and want to get it on the road, moving it up and down my driveway isn't nearly fun enough

I used 2 quarts of Mobil 1 full synthectic and a quart of 85w140 weight lucas. Mine took 2.5 quarts one time then changing it another it took 3 quarts. If all else fails I believe you can just untighten the nut on the SIDE of the transmission with a 3/4 in wrench and whatever pours out is extra. When I did mine I undid that nut completely then filled till it came out of it and stopped.

Ok since I'm not with my car I can't check, but I swear I thought I saw bolts on both the left and right side of the transmission, but I could be wrong, been studying biochem for the past 5 days Also, why'd you put a quart of 85w140 in it? And have you had any problems with the mobil 1 eating your synchros?

one bolt is on the bottom of the transmission, thats the drain plug

then there is another plug halfway up the transmission and thats the fill plug... real mechanics etc with pumps and proper equiptment just fill it through that hole, the rest pour it in through the shifter spot... but just don't put in a certain amount and call it good, take off the fill plug, when it comes out that hole it is full....

make sure transmission is level(parellel) to ground

also there are no 3/4 size plugs on these cars, its 19mm...

damn near every bolt on the 240sx is either 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, or 19mm

Leave the extra .5Its too much hassle for just .5 litersThe only thing that could damage is a faulty seal that anyways will leak.

I remember when I first changed the transmission oil. I poured 6 quarts via the shifter oil. No problems until I changed it back and could not find a container big enough for the oil to drain!!Also, Lucas recomends 75w90 plus their additive in a 1:1 ratio. They say that its safe for "yellow" trannies like ours.

So what are you going to use to drain the transmission fluid?a 19mm? umm I think not. You have to use a 3/4 in. wrench(idr what its called) Instead of putting a socket on the end you stick the 3/4 in into the bolt and undo it.

anyone here have any success with the lucas transmission leak stop???

i put some in my transmission a whils ago because its leaking, and the leak continued, it actually leaked the lucas out first since its denser ( i think)

i think the problem was that the car stayed sitting when i put it in...would it work better if i put a bottle in and run the car so the transmission is warms up to use it????

If you added lucas oil to your trans, you wont have one for too long. I know from experience. it'll shift great for a month and when you least expect it, down it will go. Lucas oil is denser so it takes out the particles that could be keeping your trans alive. be careful
