1990: 31036-60U00 1991: 31036-64U11 revision 31036-64U701992: 31036-64U12 revision 31036-64U70

Models with 1st gear start1993: 31036-64U20 revision 31036-64U75

The revision tranny ecu was designed to address [the few] owner compliants of lock up shock in D4 at around 42 mph.

The 90 Q also had a 31036-60U00---revision 2 as a rolling change in December 1989.

We see few -70 or -75 so either owners didn't complain or the lock up clutch was worn by the time the revision came out.

Having acquired a standard 90 to replace my active 91, I wanted to use my ECU and TCU, both Wolf modified for the active suspension, in the regular car.

I confirmed by phone with Jim Wolf that the JWT ECU's will work only with with all 91-93 non-CA Active cars. I wanted to slip them into my "new" 1990 but he advised that there are signals to the ECU/TCU from the Suspension controller, and that without that feed the controllers will not function correctly.

But that brought up another question- When an active is converted to standard how do the TCU/ECU controllers do without the input? Maybe the suspension controller, if it's still there, still interfaces? To test I installed the two active JWT units in my standard 90 Q. They work perfectly. I think based on this the earlier advice was backwards.

As far as I know the Active computer just receives signals from the ecu and its sensors. The TCS system is the one that interacts with the engine ecu and sends ignition retard signals to the engine ecu as it closes the secondary throttle. Most actives also had TCS so this may be where their thoughts came from.Same with HICAS it tells ecu what it's doing!

Possibly the only area in which an active may be simpler than another model....

Would the P/N for this be 31036-60U02? Just checked the one that came on "Q2" - I'm finally getting it ready for daily driver status. I want to get everything done to it I can do (fluid exchanges, ATF cooler, etc.) before I transfer the tags.

It still has the stock transmission, and as best as I can tell the stock ECU/TCU. It's a CA model, so maybe they used a different TCU in those models? Doesn't really matter anyway - she'll be getting the 93 ECU/TCU combination.

I'll be seeing you guys at T3 soon for guides...

"Would the P/N for this be 31036-60U02?" is the part number of the replacement ecu I had in my 90Q [A64-000P10].Who knows confusion abounds even in the manuals and Product bulletins. This was in the car [dealer change, running change, changed at dock in California --- no records] when it was delivered to me in June 1990 [made in Jan 1990].I received a 60U00 from JWT modified as a trimode in 1994.

I would think one would not want a 60U11 as this came with the ill fated 1991 transmission!

Q45tech,I've checked my TCU against your listing of TCU P/Ns by model year. I have a 92Q (manufacture date on door jam - 12/91). The TCU P/N is 31036-64U11 so everything makes sense.I've been shopping for a TCU that will start the transmission in first gear. I've looked at junkyard web sites for a 1993-1995 unit. Many don't quote P/Ns. Of those that do many list P/N 310-64U10. That P/N isn't on your list, and really doesn't make sense because it's a lower number than mine. Question 1: Is there more than one P/N I can use or should I only use 31036-64U20?

Question 2: Is there any advantage to having JWT rebuild my TCU? (The price is a lot higher.)

P.S. I didn't see the "revison" number on my TCU though I didn't remove it from the car.

Is this a CA or Non-California.... or doesn't that matter for the TCU?

Thanks

Adam
