So the hits just keep on comin'. Today I went to drive the car and its hard to put into 1st. And then when I start to move from 1st, the car shakes violently. If I start out in 2nd, it doesn't do it. The transmission also likes to pop out of 4th on the highway now too. This is great. So now in addition to my smoking motor/turbo problem, I have a useless transmission too. Anyone have a good deal on a transmission they want to hook me up with????

Yea, thats what I plan on using when I get back to the states. I've just about destroyed my CA transmission on Hockenheimring and Nurburgring.

I am using a KA transmission as well. $400 isn't bad, but I am sure the cost all depends on what exactly is wrong with it. We'll see what happens. The car is still driveable, but its tough to get it in first.

Internally they are the same same. Only difference is the KA has a taller 5th gear which is nice to have for highway driving.

I dissagree with the Ka having a taller 5th gear... I dont care what any website or fourm says... The 5th gear in my CA transmission is noticably longer/taller then the previous KA transmission. I used to be at around 3200 rpm at 65-70 now im at around 2800rpm at the same speed.

Maybe some Japanese kid decided to put an SR transmission onto the CA bellhousing before you got it.

Sounds like you guys are having a few problems with your transmissions. Are CA18DET transmissions prone to problems like the ones you are describing or any other similar problems or is it the fact that some of yous beat and trash on your transmissions often and the age factor of course? I am asking because i will be buying an engine soon so i was curious about this incase i might have to get it rebuilt before it goes in.

I think its a combo of things.... Age, miles, fluid used, and im sure it wasnt drivin by a grandma while it was in Japan... If you have the funds I would just rebuild a ka transmission then swap the bell housings when you get the CA transmission.

Yeah no thanks. I think I am going to just trade Sean my spare KA transmission for his spare CA transmission. Then I will get this broken one rebuilt on the side and swap it in down the road.
