Tranmission Problem

Hey. I have a 1992 base 5-speed and shifting from 1st gear to second gear is really hard now! I really have to force it in straight. It feels like moving a stick through a bucket of rocks! I have never abused the car. Has anybody had anyexperience with what I have now? I hear it could possibly be a synchro? How much would it cost because I am basically broke. I remeber one time I didn't put it all the way in and it grinded for 3 seconds, but that was it. Thanks.

have you noticed a growling noise coming from the trans ? usually what happens to these transmissions is the bearings start to go out and they cause the shafts to move around making it harder to shift. im on my 3rd trans now and it had been doing this for a while but i am just putting it off until i can afford to have it professionally rebuilt.......
