Havent seen this discussed lately....is there anything in the works? I've noticed the issue on my 09 and was contemplating options.

I havent talked to the dealer yet (5 hours away) about possible fixes but wanted to have any latest info before I did.

I have a 2006 M35X that while still under warranty I mentioned to the dealer that I was having a problem with "trammeling" while driving down I25 in Denver. Without hesitation he set me up for a service visit to have the rack-n-pinion steering replaced, covered by warranty.

I can't say that it has 100% cured the problem, I probably still need to change the tires from the Generals that it came with, but the trammeling has been considerably reduced.

Infiniti corporate customer service has paid for new Michelin Primacy tires to reduce this issue. I had this done on my 2009 10 months ago, as have several other owners who respond on this board. I can tell you the issue is almost totally resolved when changing from the Goodyear RSA tire. Your dealer should be familiar with this Michelin Primacy tire switch. My dealer called Infiniti to get approval for the cost. The Primacy is an excellent tire. It is excellent in dry, wet, and even snow, I have an M35x. Others here have recommended Continental Conti tires, but it is hard to imagine they could be better than the Primacy unless you have a sport rather than the 18" wheel.

RHK,

thanks for the info on the tires. I'll have to call the dealer to see if he can do the switch...thats really what I would rather have than the steering messed with.

Note the spelling: Tramlining. Probably the reason it hasn't been news of late is because w/the proper tires it is about 99% solved. For me and the folks I've talked with the ContiExtremeContacts old style and new last year DW & DWS's are the answer. I've noted that many got the steering rack replacement, but that the issue was not resolved until the tires were changed.

If I were you, I'd go w/the Conti DWS rather then the Primacy; there's more satisfied customers w/the Conti than the Michelin.

Infiniti of Denverwww.infinitiofdenver.com

2990 South Havana StreetAurora, CO 80014-2620(888) 318-0922

The steering rack was replaced in about 4 hours, dropped the car off at 9AM on a Saturday and picked it up around 1PM. They even provided a loaner G35.

No, the service rep. simply said that they were replacing the R&P under warranty. I figured that if Infinity was covering such an expensive reapir that there might be something else they were aware of that needing replacing. Even though it didn't cure the problem completely I felt more comfortable knowing that I wasn't going to have to replace it myself later down the road.

You may be correct if you are looking for a performance tire that also reduces the tramlining issue, BUT I am not sure Infiniti will pay for the Conti switch on a 2009 M, I KNOW they will pay for the Primacy switch on a 2009.On another topic, Antzrus, I wish I had your interior color.

BOURBON, beautiful isn't it? They discontinued it. Apparently we are in a small minority.

I only have 500 miles on the ContiExtremeContact DWS, but I can say that the serious tramlining I had on my '07 M35X with the RSA's is mostly gone. Not 100% absent, but a good 90% less, and what remains is acceptable to me. Had a nice snow and ice storm in eastern NC this weekend, and the DWS in combination with the AWD work as advertized. As a bonus, the asymetrical tread on the Conti's looks good on the M.

I'll add to the accolades for the Conti DWS. Changed my wife's 08x from the original RSA's about a month ago. Outstanding difference. Maybe not 100% but darn near it, and what's left is I think geography related. I'd not hesitate to recommend them to anyone as a first order effort to improve the car's handling.

Did you speak to Infiniti directly for this or did the dealer do the leg work? I ask because I spoke to the Service Dept at Infiniti of Denver and he suggested they work on the power steering. I would rather they replace the tires of course instead of messing with the steering right off the bat.

I think the problem might be that the dealers don't get much from Nissan when they just replace the tires, but a lot more when they schedule such major work; possibly it is just a red herring to make $$$ for the dealer.

If Nissan would just wise up and drop the RSA's as OEM tires they would stand to make a lot of money, but then the dealers would lose out. Maybe the dealers have a lot of influence, kinda' like PAC's have in our (USA) government?

I called Infiniti less than 2 weeks after I took delivery. They gave me a reference number regarding my complaint, the dealer called the following day, after I gave dealer the reference #, the dealer affirmed my car was tramlining, Infiniti then told dealer to change tires. This is an issue Infiniti has dealt with on M35x vehicles. I would use the search feature on this board to back up you complaint. I have seen posts about tire swaps, paid for by Infiniti as far back as 18-24 months ago. Just out of curiosity, I would like to know if Infiniti paid for any of the Conti swaps. According to dealer serice writer, dealer was told to put Michelin Primacies on the car.

Hey guys I just put the conti extreme DWS on the M35 (06 Journey Pkg) and by the time I put my foot on the brakes at a stop light I felt a difference. so far these tires feel great . Yes you do feel a slight pull of the wheel sometimes but nowhere near the sudden jerk that used to scare the sh** outa me. that to all before me who talked about this thread ,I personally learned alot. So if the dealer wont pay by all means get them yourself ,Tirerack has the best price I found and my dealer price matched, tires and shipping.so dont lay down for the primacy's tell him you want the conti's and then tell him how much you'll pay

Hey, try this. Take the Michelins the dealer offers but get the Conti's which are about $50 cheaper per tire and have them installed instead. Then take the new Michelins, never installed and sell'em locally and make a few bucks?

Well apparently I am the only one with an M that has this issue according to Infiniti. I called the Infiniti customer service number and spoke with 2 people that have "never heard of this issue". They opened up a claim number (or whatever that is) for future reference.

Took the car to the dealer (Infiniti of Denver) and all they did was check the alignment (they never heard of the issue either) and said it was fine. Wouldnt replace the tires and looked at me like I had a d!ck growing out of my forehead when I asked about it.

I thought that this was a well known and documented problem????

Just picked up my M35x from dealer. He put new Michelin Primary tires on the car under warranty and did an alignment. Just the drive back from the dealer seemed to be smoother. I cannot say if this is the "placebo effect" or not, but the drive home was smoother than the drive to the dealer! Ray Catena INFINITI in Edison did this at NO COST. This is a $1000 tire exchange. I have to admit that they are seriously trying to satisfy the consumer. So far so good. Will keep the forum informed.

I just wanted to assure you the problem was not just you and you are by no means the first. I wish you all the best with your claim to Infiniti. Now I will put my responses to rest.

No one is rubbing it in per se. You were just naive. You just got suckered by believing their BS. Go back and get assertive and/or aggressive if need be.

This issue was one I was well aware of by reading these Infiniti lists back in '06-'07 before I got my '06 in 11/07. When I originally drove it the 800 miles to my home I just couldn't believe that the original owner drove the RSA's for 32k miles then sold it to me w/no mention of the really dangerous lack of tracking (tramlining) the machine exhibited. In addtion the damn things made a whining sound like an F-16 fighter jet as it rode through the slushy roads here in the Pacific Northwest.

Ok - after 22k miles on my 2008 M35, the RSA tires were shot - seemed to wear pretty fast but.. regardless, I just had the Michelins Primacy's put on and I agree that the vast majority of tramling is now gone. The RSA's are simply a crappy tire.
