Wow.... thats all I can think. The pain of losing someone so close is not like anything I have ever felt before. My prayers and condolences go out to his family and friends.
I must start by believing that Paul is in a place, high in the sky, flying a high performance angel jet. One that has a window that looks down here, onto anything that he has ever seen, and more. I believe that Paul can hear this letter, and to which I would like to share this with you guys, how much of a best friend he has been to me, and I hope he can hear the words that I have never told him.
I met Paul long ago, through Mark Jackson, yet another great friend of mine. We all go back a long while. This all started as a car thing. Mark met Paul by talking about their love of the 240sx they both drove. I met them both the same way. Back in ’97 when I started 240sx.org, my intensions were to do nothing more than to help fellow enthusiasts out, and as you guys know, the website made great friends among other things. We all met through this, we all bonded through it, we all helped each other through it. At the time I was going for my pilot license and I would always ask Paul questions about different things. He knew or he tried to learn anything I ever came to him about. He was always a role model to me because he would have such great inspiration and motivation to get the impossible done. He helped me build my 240sxT and always has been there at any problem that would arise. Not only in flying and automotive was he there, but he was my roommate for a while, and we did everything together. He helped everyone out there reading this get to know each other by promoting the website, and car meets, and simply pulling over people on the road that had a 240 just to get to know him, and talk cars for a while, or drop in a motor or a trans. Through the good and the bad, he has always been there for me as my best friend, and has always felt like family to me.
They say the good die young, and I have doubted it before… but this time someone was right. He has always deserved more than what he has gotten, but I hope wherever he is now, things are balancing out. It was just a day before the accident that he was over my place telling me he was up for 3 interviews finally, after the long wait. All which were major airlines. Paul if you can read this, I sure hope your #1 on line for the lord’s private jet, cause I know I can trust you to guide me anywhere. I recently have gotten engaged, and he was my choice for best man, best friend, and closest to family.
Some warming words that I had heard this morning that I would like to share….I have spoken to Dustin, another great friend of Pauls, that he taught how to fly the AT-6 texan. He let me know a few details from Eric, the person in the backseat at the accident, and Eric says that Paul has saved his life, by making a maneuver that prevented the airplane from rolling over on the ground.
Paul, you will be missed greatly, and remembered forever! With lots of love – Shawn
