I have had jackophobia now for about 5 years. I was just changing my brakes and had a jack under the car. Well needless to say the jack without warning just let go and split my middle finger on my left hand (the rotor peelled it like banana). The rotor was still attached to the car so I got all the weight of the car. It took a hand specialist two hours to put my finger back together I thank that DR to this day he saved my finger. It was a German doctor here in Germany. I figured it was just brakes who needs a stand but to this day not one time have I worked on my that I don't put every piece of safety equipment on my car. A couple of minutes earlier I had my head under the car just to check the exhaust system.

Everybody please be safe. Luckily I didn't lose my life but a couple of minutes more under that car and things could have been much worse.

I am sorry for your loss and I hope everybody who doesn't have jackophobia heeds to the warnings of the people who have experienced faulty jacks in this forum.

I don't use jackstand that much on my car. Mainly because I can usually reach whatever I need. So I just jack the car up to have more room. However If I'm under my car I got 2 stands positioned and the jack engaged so if the car falls for some reaosn the jack is still there as a backup.

a few years ago me and a few buddies of mine were helping one of our friends put his turbo D16 into his civic. motor went in fine and fired up. noticed there was a bunch of coolant leaking from somewhere. so i volunteer to jump under his car real quick to see where its coming from. jack up the entire front with a floor jack and im under. i found where it was coming from and then all of a sudden my life flashes in front of me. one of my used to be friends was leaning on the jack handle and somehow turned the handle and the car falls right on the floor. THANK GOD that civic doesnt sit how it does now. nothing crushed me at all, i just got a cut. i was all the way under the front of the car too. it was on tein springs then, now hes on coilovers dropped on its nuts. i couldnt believe on how the hell my friend did that. i was pissed off at him. they had to jack the car back up so i could get out though. let me tell you, it was one of the scariest moments of my life. i hate to get under cars that are on jackstands after that. its all good now cause i fvcked his girl quite a few times after that and still do on occasion lol. thats his payback. def jackphobia now here cause of his dumbass.

Sorry to hear about that I had that happen to a cousin about 5 years ago. Everytime I work on a car one of my family members always reminds me to use saftey glasses and jackstands.

I always use jackstands and a huge rubber chock behind a wheel just to make sure the car doesn't roll around when I don't want it to.

Jackstands are cheap and it only takes a few seconds to get 'em under your car.
I'm disturbed by the fact that people don't use them, or use them in the right locations, or even do a shake-test before they get under.

Sorry to hear about this, that's a horrible event to start your day with.

Man, that is terrible =[ thats just one of those things that can happen at any given time i guess. I have a huge phobia of using just a jack if i have to go underneath any car. For instance lol

And i wasnt even going underneath my car lol.

But damn, that is really just a terrible way to pass on.

but the most important thing to do besides securing the vehicle while up in the air... letting some1 know that u will b working under your car/ have that cellphone handy, just in case...

I also knew of some1 working on changing out his clutch on a camaro... late @ night/early AM... got pinned under by the trans. until morning, when his parents came outside to the driveway to get ready for work.

you should at least use the jack as a secondary.. leave it under there and supported just in case the jackstands give

condolences. one of the coolest customers at my liquor store passed away several months ago under his truck. he was movign the rear end a few inches up when the siccor jack gave way. ever since then i always put tires, jack stands, or ANYTHING that can support the cars weight under sseveral points in the frame. its a real scary thought

Well I see that "Richter" retracted his previous posts about finding the individual under his SVT Cobra. I would like to start this post by stating the following:

1. Richter did not find the individual.2. The time was not 6:30 am 3. The individual was not found under his SVT Cobra but rather his company car which was a 2005 Taurus SE. 4. If Tri State paid for his CDL and certifications then why doesn't he refer to his real name.5. It was not his brother who did any backing but rather his Uncle.6. RICHTER DOES NOT WORK AT TRI STATE STERLING TRUCKS!

Furthermore, Richter is a compuslsive liar and does not know the damage he has caused to not only the family but the business as well. If you would like to know how I know the true facts of this terrible tragedy, I am his son and this forum post was brought to my attention by a good friend. I appreciate the sincere posts from other forum members but am disgusted how Richter carried himself, lied about knowing my father and actually working at Tri State Sterling Trucks. Hopefully Richter will never work in the diesel business as long as I am around.

One more thought...I have reconsidered my situation and will pursue defamtion of character on behalf of "Richter's" postings. Tracking this individual down will be a rather simple task.
