Just found out my overheating problem is a BLOWN HEAD GASKET ...But on the plus side the dealership is still gunna be fixing my seatbelts for free ... The dealership wanted $1600 for parts and labor, so i asked what if i provided the parts and still pay the labor, it was still $1200... I also called around and the prices were still around $800-$1000... Since im 17 i have to wait 4 months till im 18 to be able to get the money thats in the bank...

So i said What The Hell... i might as well just go SR... So for 4 months im gunna be gathering parts and doing body work so that i could do my swap within a day...

As for the KA... ill probably sell it for cheap since it has a blown head gasket and a front main oil leak...

So ill be updating w/ body and sr swap threads

im listening to STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN- LED ZEPPELIN right now

It wouldn't cost you much to fix yourself, but ok.

Swapping the headgasket on my SR was way more of a task than swapping my SR. Both my first time doing each.

this probably has to do with the content of your thread about girls liking fast cars and raping your poor motor with 5k launches

i AGREE an sr swap is alot more simple than a head gasket

my first sr swap took about 10 hours with a friend helping me

my first ka head gasket took about 10 hours to get it apart lol ftl

then more to get it back together

now i got ka and sr head gaskets down to under 5 hours

That makes the two of us! I just recently blew my head gasket, and the price I get for the job is about around $1200 also! But hey, its a good excuse for me to do a 5 speed conversion and get a new KA!

if your willing to spend 3k on a swap throw 3k into the ka. assuming you have good mileage and get better perfromance out of the ka than the sr. it'll be a lot cheaper to fix it yourself and a huge learning experience too. but thats just my personal opinion. your car you do what you want. you only have to please yourself.(i said please yourself )

good luck wit what ever you choose

Having done multiple motor swaps and hg replacements in S13s I can vouch that either is doable in a day. I would say that the $100 in materials for the HG swap makes more sene than the full motor swap, but whatever.

And I did my first motor pull and fix at 18. Age has zilch to do with the issue. I had never done anything major by myself before that. I downloaded the factory service manual for my RX-7 and grew a pair. It's called learning. But whatev. Your car and your cash bro.

I dont get it, i can pull the head on my car in less then two hours. The first time i did i took my time, and it still only took me four. I dont think you need to be buying an SR when it MAY need more maintenance then you KA. Your 17 you need to learn your car anyway and since your willing to spend up to 2000 for an SR swap, why dont you start tearing the head off your KA and get a new HG. Then while your waiting for your money when you turn 18, start stock pileing turbo parts for your KA. A stock turbo KA at 8 lbs of boost will boast more power then a stock SR anyday. Just my 2 pennies

Yeah its an OHC engine, a bit easier to pull the head then a OHV motor.

Its not hard.

Get a gasket kit, and new timing chain (gears too if you'd like.) Pull the headTake it to the machine shop have them check it and mill it if it needs it (Less then 60 bucks)Clean it all up, clean the block deck and put it back together, time it and call it a day. Someone will help you out if you throw them a bone.

If you have someone help you and you toss them a 100 bucks your talking like a 300 dollar job.

I was plannin on going KA-t but my internals are all built up with carbon from years of burning oil... so my turbo would get really dirty and bad oil from my oil feed line... unless if i change the oil every 3 days... The reason i dont really want to spend money on my KA, or at least too much money, is the money would be my parents money!
