Hi all
Something weird happened today. Was coming back from filling gas and all of a sudden traffic and weather info became available. I didn't subscribe to the service anyone know why it turned on? Pics Below

When I had an Acura, I remember that XM radio would become available for a while around/ leading to Memorial day for those with the right equipment.*

The dealer is just giving you a sample of the crack, you'll get addicted and buy it.

I cancelled mine. Traffic was garbage and didn't work in 99% of the places I drive and Waze is better. Weather was just a bragging thing...1000 weather apps on my phone if I want to download one.

I read this thread last night and looked today at my car and sure enough is operational to.

I'd like to have it activated but I wouldn't use it that often, and it's not very cheap anymore either.

I agree with Ilya here. The alerts are rarely accurate. If you are driving locally and get the alert, you already know an alternate way to get where you're going so it could be marginally beneficial. If you are on a long trek in a strange state, the system doesn't suggest alternate routes so you're still screwed - you may now know why, but how does that help? If it gave alternates, I would consider using it. As for the weather, crack open the window or look through the windscreen - if it's gray, maybe rain, it it's clear, no worries. Traffic alerts for places like San Diego are a laff - of course there will be accidents and slow traffic on I-5 unless it's midnight on Christmas Day, lol.

XM likes doing free trials. from time to time they have a free week to up to a month for everyone. not bad at all

you can get good deals on the service thought them. i pay about $50 and change for a year of radio service including traffic and weather

Not sure why everyone is freaking out, free trial service. I actually subscribe to the NavTraffic and Weather and I like it alot. Traffic isn't 100% accurate but its nice to see traffic levels to make a game time decision if i am going to make a detour. I suppose you cant please everyone, especially when it's something free. :gapteeth:  :naughty: :rotfl

I guess it depends where you live. Minny is a big area so maybe that's why yours works. In much of NY state, it's useless. Even when free lol. It literally does nothing. I guess for those of us who live in LA, NYC, Boston, Miami...it would work. If you live in Albany, NY evidently our traffic doesn't matter :rotflmao .

Damn if thats the case i would be disappointed as well. But Albany, NY is much larger than the suburb that I live in. So honestly I'm surprised to hear that Albany, NY doesn't show up any traffic alerts. Have you checked with another Y51 owner around your area to see if they have the results as you do?

Traffic seems to work well all over the Minneapolis/St Paul (hence Twin Cities) metro area. Does anyone know where our NavTraffic draws data from?

The weather alerts (when come in free) are accurate but traffic is not here in the Richmond VA area.

Funny, I just got an email from XM offering 50% off NavTraffic and Weather thru the rest of my term. What a coincidence! (/ntrly)

Yep, free XM through May 29th.

Hate when its gone but can't make myself pay that much for it. Have it 3 months in my new project car since I bought it a few weeks ago.

I think I pay about $7/month for just weather and traffic.

My XM radio shut off on the Tuesday after Memorial Day. Traffic and Weather is still on for me since I am subscribed to that.

I noticed I had a free trial as well, didn't know what those little green lines were along the route I was taking until I actually look at it closer, was pretty cool. This was about two weeks ago though. :mike
