WHAT'S UP EVERYONE....FIRST TIME JOINING A FORUM AND I'M LOOKING TO GET SOME ADVICE AND HELP FROM ANYONE. I DON'T KNOW HOW IT IS WHERE YOUR FROM BUT OVER HERE PEOPLE ONLY SEEM TO KNOW ABOUT HONDAS.......NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT NISSANS OUT HERE. TO BE HONEST I AM 1 OUT OF 3 SE-R OUT HERE SO AS YOU CAN SEE I NEED SOME HELP. I'VE HAD MY 91 SE-R FOR A WHILE NOW SLIGHTLY MODED AND I'VE BEATEN COUNTLESS HONDAS BUT NOW EVERYONE IS STARTING TO COME OUT BOOSTED OR SWAPPED OUT SO IT'S GETTING A LITTLE TOUGHER TO KEEP UP. NOT TO PUT DOWN MY SR20DE CAUSE IT HAS NEVER GIVEN ME A PROBLEM BUT I NEED TO STEP MY GAME UP.......SO MY QUESTION TO YOU GUYS IS SHOULD I BOOST MY SR20DE OR SHOULD I GO FOR THE SR20VE (NEO VVL)? I'VE SEEN THEM ON YOU TUBE AND I READ UP ON THE SPECS BUT I WANT TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE THAT ACTUALLY HAS THAT SWAP TO SEE IF IT'S WORTH IT....THANKS AGAIN.

Welcome to NICO!

Aside from that suggestion (which is a good one), I think your best bet is to start perusing this and the Sentra forum for info on swaps and turbocharging and make the decision yourself.

In terms of hp gain per dollar, turbocharging your DE (if it's it good condition) is the cheapest, followed by a DET swap, then the VE is last.

However, the VE is more unique.

It also depends on your driving style. The VE means high revs, while the DE means a big fat powerband right in the middle of the rev range, depending on what turbo you use and such.

Regardless you're going to need to do a bit of work to get it all running and legal. Again, take a look around for more info.

Well thanks for the advice........I have been reading up on both engines and it seems that the VVL keeps out horsepowering and out tourqing the DE engine. I want to know how hard is it to swap that VVL engine into my 92 SE-R. Obviously I know i have to trade up the ECU and Harness but what about the transmission and motor mounts and any other things that i'm missing.

VE's torque doesn't kick in til later because of VVL, but peak torque and power is higher, yes.

Since you have an SE-R already, the mounts and trans are fine as-is. This is pretty much a drop-in swap, mechanically, the electronics are really the only hurdle.

Yea I kinda figured the electrical would be the problem. I figured since it's goin VVL obviously the ECU and Harness would have to be changed over too. What about distributer? Does that have to be VVL too? I'm actually lookin for the VVL now but I'm stuck on the one off the Xterra.....supposably If i can get my hands on the VET off the Xterra it's about 300hp already.... but the shops around here only have the SR16.....and I don't trust those EBAY engines. Do you know where to find an SR20ve?

Since your car already has a 2.0 in it you don't need to do much other than swap over the harness onto the VE. A few wires need to be made longer and thats about it. The ecu needs to be programed for the injectors and what ever maf your going to run. You use the DE dizzy but you cut one of the tabs off so you can set the timing on the VE. VVL is controlled by the Greddy MSS or MSD RPM window switches. MSS will give you independent control of the intake and exhaust VVL solenoids.

That's perfect thanks alot your a great help.......I always thought this swap would be like the hondas......cause when you go VTEC with a Honda swap you have to get the VTEC Dizzy Harness and ECU. So How does the VVL kick in if im still using the DE harness and ECU........I had a guy send me a message saying I HAVE to use the VVL ECU and Harness.

you can use that or this

I use the MSS myself because I can control when it turns off vs just only going 100rpm on and off range.

The VVL ECU limits your overall performance. 4gs way is the best as you can control all aspects of your motor. nametake has it clean, de has power through the power band depending on the length of the piping from the plenum and the size and length of the headers and the type of header.
