Don't worry, will still be in here to comfort and support you in these trying times.

Was that weird? Maybe a little.

Ok, just a message from the friendly mod.

They gave me higher than most places I had asked. Ended up being $8,800. It was an '07 SL 6MT Hatch with 40k miles, every option possible except Sunroof and ABS.

One other place had offered $8,500. Most weren't wanting to give more than $8,200 or so.

Sad that in less than 2 years the value was cut in half, paid $16k for it new in July '07. Main reason I'll probably never buy another new car.

On a trade, you really do not know what they gave you since they can play with the value of your trade plus the value of the car you are trying to buy! However, I am just stating the obvious.

Yeah, but he told me the price of the car first and was set on it (good deal, friend new the general manager of the chain of dealers). Then gave me the higher trade number.

Anyway on to the pics from today:

It does drive very nice and the transmission is incredibly smooth. And yes tinted windows will be one of the few mods done.

I always wanted one for the Versa as well, there's got to be a way to make one work. I assume they have them available for Altima/Maxima/Rogue/etc, so something should be able to work.

I know I actually saw a lady once in a mall parking lot. I was driving by in my Versa and actually pointed out to my mom the fact that she had a net in her Versa hatchback. I emailed the dealership and they have never heard of this, nor do they have a part for it. The sales person said he checked out the trunk in the Versa and cannot find any spot for it. Somehow though this lady had one, and I really want one. Maybe in the future they will come out with an accessory for that.

That's the way it is, worsened by the fact that it's part of the economy model line and the economy. I agree, never buy new unless you are getting thousands off or an almost non-existent interest rate on financing. Buy slightly used, let someone else take the depreciation hit.

Just wondering... Don't you have 4 hooks in the back of your HB? These hooks should be the ones to use the net... I use them to hang bags with stuff to avoid hearing "boom and crash" sounds while driving...

As far as I know I don't have any hooks. There are small circles that look like if you take them out there could be hooks. But I have had the dealership actually look inside the trunk and it doesn't look like there is any hooks. The only thing in the trunk is the built in sub-woofer. That is it ... I want hooks to get a net !

That G35 is beautiful. Enjoy.

Indeed, buying a depreciating asset is never recommended. But our vehicles are an emotional purchase most of the time. I buy new because I will be the one maintaining it and I enjoy knowing the history of the car starts with me.

Most people don't keep their cars long enough to get the value out of them. The depreciaition is the largest in the first three years, after that it tapers off.

Buying used is smart if one can determine that the car was maintained properly and there is no spotty past history, major damage, etc. As someone mentioned, the major depreciation has already been paid for by someone else.

But again, cars bring out the emotional side in most of us. Just like most things we don't need, it doesn't matter that the value will drop. We identify with our cars and they say something about us.

^ Couldn't agree more with Bubs' post. I know buying new is rarely the best option fiscally, but then again, few car purchases are based solely on need anyway.

Also, that's a great G35. I'm convinced the G35 has already established itself as a 'modern classic' - especially the first-gen coupe. Nissan hit a homerun wtih the design, for sure. And the engine note from the VQ35 is easily one of the best on the road. My dad purchased an '06 sedan new, which I've had the pleasure to drive quite a bit, and it's one heck of a car.

Yeah, on my last couple purchases, I just went in with a "trade difference" number that I came up with on my own, and told them that I don't care where they assign the dollars, just make that my difference. Funny that that's the way they look at it, but that's not the way they want you to look at it. I hate trading in, but gosh dang if it isn't terribly convenient to get it all taken care of in one fell swoop.

Or unless you are going to keep the thing forever and drive the snot out of it until it dies.

That's my plan: 10 years, 350,000km
