Yeah I hate to see her go, but the G35 was too nice to pass up. G35 had premium B package and sports package.

Dealer gave me $1500 for a 94 Q with 152k, slight bumper damange and a torn driver's seat.

Anyway, I have a few parts forsale left from the Q.

1- Body control module for a 94 Q1- NICO ECU stage 2 (jdm smog, 7200rev limit, 91 octane, non TCS, non Active)1-key fob remote

The key fob remote is broken at the bottom where it attaches to a key ring. I have the plastic piece that broke off, super glue can probably fix it. The buttons are faded some.

Make some offers with shipping (my zip is 27407). I have paypal! No low ballers.

Sissy traitor!

Now your just like all the other 5 billion people with G's.

Those things are everywhere here in LA.

But nobody has the Q.

Seeing another Q on the freeway is like when I go to the asian market place with my wife, and I see another tall white guy with and asian girl. I can see him way over there and he's easy to spot because he's different than everyone else, like me.

And more importantly, he's a head above the rest, like me.

Like the Q. DIFFERENT! BETTER!

Enjoy your G Mr. Arnold!

Heheh, and here I thought the first posts would be guys clamoring for that juicy NICO ECU.

The G35 is a nice car. Congratulations, Clyons.

It is, but even with the 6MT, couldn't get me out of my Q45, nor could the Y34.

Enjoy.

G35 what a drop in personal standards from the top to the bottom of the food chain. V8 vs V6 and basic entry level.

Don't put it on a lift and technically examine things or you will runaway screaming!

To each their own ... a 2003 M45 (Y34) got me out of my 1995 Q45! Reminded me of the performance of my 1991 Q45!

FWIW, I had been planning to keep my 1995 Q45, but it just had too many things going wrong with it - I learned never to buy a lease return again! The 1995 Q45 was nice, but qasn't as nice as my 1991 Q45 ... which I should never have traded in.

Oh, well.

G35 is a nice car. It's quick to it's feet and handling is predictable. My son is looking at an 04 or 05 coupe. Although his friend got an 06 coupe.

More aftermarket goodies available than Q. Enjoy your G.

I don't quite understand all of the G bashing here... "drop in personal standards" ??

What is available that is truely G50-like at this point? At least from Infiniti...

Clyons0203 - I hope you just enjoy the G... we have both and I enjoy them for what they are! The Q is still my favorite car - especially my favorite cruising on the interstate, and the G is a lot of fun as well - even moreso around town...

Congrats on your new ride

If a 95Q used materials and construction techinques that retailed for $50k twelve years ago, corrected for inflation that $75,000 today.

A $35,000 G35 in todays dollars even with a 5AT has to be built to a lower standard.

Now volume of production can only go so far.

If you place the two side by side and strip off each component you will see the structural and strength diffferences.

Obviously 600 pounds differences in weight allow certain THINNING of components.

The Q45 is a nice car. Its one of the best car ever built. But it does have its flaws. Injectors, knock sensors, fuel pump, transmissions, etc.....

The G35 is faster, handles better, better on gas, looks better, and drives better.

And yes an entry level 05 Infiniti does have more options than a fully loaded 94 Q45. The Q45 handles like a boat unless you have an active (thats working correctly).

The Q45 has one of the WORST resale values of all time. A similar Lexus LS 400 (with less horsepower and features) will retail about $3k - $4k higher than a Q45.

No Infiniti or Nissan has ever been built with the attention to detail the orginal Q45 had. Nissan wont build them like that no more because building them like that got them no where. It didnt make sense to offer such advanced features, REAL leather on the doors, world class V8...... then use plastic as chain guides, injectors that foul if you look at them wrong, and no transmission cooler.

Dont forget Nissan almost went under about 5-7 years ago.

Lexus has managed to build cars with the same attention to detail, if not better, and stay profitable. Lexus has passed Benz and BMW in terms of sales.

The ECU is sold by the way

The G35 is a cheaply made little car thats actually a good bit of fun to drive.

The Q45... that level of quality will never be seen again. Nissan is now the GM of Japanafrance. Oh well.

Congrats on the new ride!

Actually very few cars from any company under $80,000 are built as well as as they did prior to 1996.....................even Mercedes has cheapened up.

Computer advances have allowed the vehicle to be 100% simulated to reduce the EXTRA levels of strength added by just to be extra safe engineers.Cost of a mild rear end bump on a G35 has balloned, something that will cost $500 [paint] on an old Q will cost $2700 on a G ............now granted insurance usually pays these cost buthe G will never again be the same.

Technicans have a different view of cars that is difficult for owners to understand blinded as they are by the cars bling.

Just wait until these G pass the 7-8 year mark and tell me again how much better they are than an old heavy 90-96Q. See you in 2010.

I completely agree. That was part of my earlier question - what is the most G50-like replacement for someone who isn't willing or able to restore a 15+ year old car?

And I don't think anyone here has said that the G has the build quality of a G50... just that for it's price and what's available today, it's a good car.

A 1998 LS400 is light weight compared to LS430, has a 5AT, VVT, big brakes, and adjustable front camber which can be reset to -1.0 degrees, Acquire:Limited slip from a Supra, Aftermarket springs, shocks, swaybars and bushings AND REAL MICHELIN PERFORMANCE TIRES.

5 MPH crash tests:1998 LS 400 models $708 $418 $2,154 $523 $3,803 $951

Since 1998 is already 10 years old assume that $3,000 will be needed to fix the flaws just like any other used car.

Lexus still makes their cars pretty much top notch. BMWs are more expensive than the Japanese competition. And we all knows BMWs arent nearly as reliable.

The only think that could replace the G50 that is out now is maybe the M45\35 or the GS350/430. The RL is a lame duck.

Jesda is right. Nissan can't afford to build a car like the G50 any more. It waqs a once in a lifetime endeavor, never to be repeated.G35 is a nice little car, I like 'em, but they're not Q45s by any means.Great car for the wife.Nearest thing to a G50 today in the Infiniti/Nissan lineup is the latest version of the M45. It's actually a very nice car, still not a G50, but as good or better than many of it's competitors. It got rave reviews from car mags, even Consumers's Reports, of all mags. Maybe a little faster then my '05 Q45, and more direct steering, but not quite as luxurious. If you want more handling/performance, get a new or very recent ('05 or '06)M45. If you want luxury, and still FAST, find a GOOD low mileage '05 or '06 Q45 (06's are hard to find; they didn't import many).

My wife is definitely not a car person, but she loves the G35 and would like to have one. Too bad I can't afford one in addition to my '05 Q45. I have to replace her 2000 Ford Focus wagon soon, and it looks like she'll get a new Honda Civic Coupe. At least it looks pretty good, gets 30/40 mpg, and will be a LOT more reliable than that Ford POS, which is so noisy, I can't hear the radio on the Freeway. Oh well, I still get to drive the Q.

Even the new LS is a shell of the model produced in 1990.............don't be fooled by the dropping costs of electronic gadgets.

Again put all the contenders on a lift and examine them from the bottom to understand QUALITY.

How can the M35/45 be that much better than the G35? Same platform, same drivetrain with V-6. I don't understand why a base M35 sells for a $10K premium over a base G35 (profit margin, I guess).

M35 fits me better, but I'll probably end up with a G35. M looks too pimp.

Overbuilding cars (early Q, LS, 80s MB) is silly since few cars will have a useful life of more than 10-15 years. Depreciation killed quality, why bother?

I have always respected Q45techs posts but now I see he (and Wes and others) has the passion for these cars that borders on obsession like me. I find ways to validate the G50 against most any car. I see Dennis does this too.

And why do we do this??? Because we have the Qs restored to OEM. Actually better now with Tokiko blues and new Michelon Exalto tires. Plus little things like "a" sway bars and 17" wheels and FSTBs. These are simple things that make the car---that finish it off and complete it.

Once you complete your G50 you will know what I am talking about, if not---if you drive one and just patch it together---you will move on to a G or M or a Caddy or an Audi. You just have to make the investment in the G50, then you will know.

No disrespect clyons, but I HIGHLY DOUBT you had your Q in 100% OEM condition, as far as mechanicals. I know Im at about 90%.

Also, comparing a car from 2003-2005 to a car from 1994 is stupid. Go back to 1997 or so when the late G50s were just a few years old. I doubt any of them had any major issues, certainly few outside of warranty. Obviously there were some bad ones, but im sure theres just as many g35s out there with as many if not mroe problems 3 years into their life.

Heres how I see it at the end of the day. These new cars from Infiniti, like the G35, the M45 are like the broad you hook up with for one night. you do your thing, you enjoy it, but at the end of the day, you still feel great going home to your lady, with any moral qualms aside...

If you are truely HARDCORE about cars, you will compare them for WHAT THEY WERE IN THE DAY. 15 years worth of technology is insane, and its not fair to compare things to a car that didnt even have the technology available at the time. A G35 built to 1994 technology would be about as good as a honda accord, or maybe an acura legend.

you all know how I love my Q, and I can even say if I had the opportunity, I would trade my Q for a perfect 90-93 all day. I am also certainly not saying that everyone should go out and buy a Q45 and restore it because that sort of (definitely insane) move is only for the, well, insane. However, fiscally it does make a marginal amount of sense. Where can you buy a clean car for $3000, put in 10 grand, for a total of 13 grand, and have a car like that? If you can SERIOUSLY tell me you'd rather have a G35 (or even M45, Y34 or Y50) over a perfectly restored G50, then I want you to have the G35.

Like tech said, see you in 2010. My Q will still be on the road, assuming no one hits me. Will your G35 still look good with original paint? Will you have 150k on the original motor and beat the tar out of it every day?

Theres a lot of other comments in this thread that dont make any sense which I will refrain from commenting about. Just remember, if youre going to compare a Q45 to a G35, at least compare it to when the Q45 was 3-5 years old.

It might! Tommy (tech at T3 Decatur) says the G35s are bulletproof except for the brakes, but using I35 pads instead of G35 pads greatly extends the brake life (G35 pads eat up the rotors). G35 engine is more or less the same as I35/Maxima (which has proven reliability) and the transmission is same as Q45 (with smaller engine). Sure the small components may wear faster, the exhaust may rust out in some states, and the paint may fade if not taken care of (happens to Qs too).... but it's minimally smaller than a Q45 (same wheelbase) and a lot more bang for the buck.

It's fine to sing the praises of the Q45, but I don't think it's appropriate to trash the G35 based on your best guess on how it will compare to the Q at 10-15 years of age.

A car's longevity is more a reflection of its owner than the car. Anything can be fixed if you want it bad enough.

The G35 is not a Q45, nor is it its equal. But then, what car really is the equal of the G50. Not even the F33 or F50 really is.

The G35 is at least as good as anything else on the market today, and I think it represents an excellent value for anyone who wants something in its size and weigtht class.

While I drive a Q45, I wish I could afford a G35 for my wife.

Classic nostalgia by soemone who's got "experience." Human beings as they age wish for previous times because it makes life simpler, more understandable. "In my day......"

Technology, advancements, on the whole, make the world better. Sometimes we screw up but overall cars are better than they were.

A great example of this is sheetmetal thickness, on my 1955 Chevy that I restored it had several dents but NO door dings after 40 years. Why? Because the sheetmetal was incredibly thick=heavy=bad (for perfromance). The sheetmetal on newer cars is much thinner=better fuel economy=better performance but there's a trade off, more dings maybe. However, some new cars screw it up like my wifes 2001 Volvo V70, I've NEVER seen a car that dings so easily, every panel is rippled.

To each there own, new cars are nice, older restored cars are nice but there's alot more nice newer cars than perfect older ones.

However, if anything happens to my 97 I'm going to putting out offers on this board to buy a 90-93 just so I can experience the fuss.

I may get rid of my '92 Q in a year or two if the $$$ is right. Very good shape other than broken A/C (better as weekend car than daily driver).

A lot of the savings in the G are in the interior and paint. Lots of orange peel (sadly, common on modern paint on most cars) and the interior and leather will look like hell in a short time.

Man, this thread shows how quickly I go through cars. Goodbye, Lexus and hello Range Rover. I'm buying a warranty on Monday.

True, but for an everyday commuter the latter two can do quite well.

For the cross country trip, I would choose the G50, but the FGY33 was perhaps even quieter and not much less performance.

It's almost impossible to buy an imported luxury V8 sedan with an LSD for less than $65K. Sure the new anti-skid technology is great for the Walter Mittys of the world, but I prefer the bite and LSD gives the loaded rear drive tire coming out of the corner. Traction control can't replicate that.

I loved the 6MT G35 for its handling and speed, but I thought it was strained at higher RPM, unlikw the VH series or even the VK series. The 5AT G35 is truly a secretary's car. Great for commuting in the dry and little else.
