I got a buddy that has a 1992 3000gt vr4 with 65000 miles on it. He and I were thinking about trading. I thought that would be cool. The problem he has with his car is it has a rod knock! Anyone with knolladge with 3000gt's? Think that would be a fair trade? It would be after I changed my headgasket and got all running! I want to but I am kinda torn!!! What do y'all think?

damn 65k miles and it already has rod knock? Thats not a good sign... think of the condition of the rest of the motor. I say keep the s14 since you know everything about it already.

And the 3000gt is a freakin tank... stay with the s14

I owned a 3000GT. Parts for it are twice as much (especially aftermarket) what we pay for our s13/s14s. Another thing is, its an awd but with a fwd engine. Its a pain to work on, parts are expensive, weighs too much, maintenance is high, and you wont be upgrading anything unless you like ebay **** or your rich. Your better off with your car since yours doesnt have any problems. Only thing I can see that it will beneifit you is if you guys trade and he gets the engine worked on to normal conditions. Than you can sell it for 10k and buy another s14.

Hate to cross forums again but take a look over at 3si.org. They can be rediculously quick with just a few mods as long as the engine is in good condition. However, your S14 compared with a rod knocking '92 VR4 is not a fair trade. A buddy of mine picked up a similar issued Stealth RT/TT for two grand...its now been fully rebuilt and flipped for seven.

Boooo! Keep the s14..

i mean front wheel drive(or AWD) VS Rear Wheel Drive.

The choice is obviousThe only place id own a 3000gt is in GT4

I have a vr4 and an s14 so i know both sides. I really depends on what you want. vr4's run 13.5 up 1/4miles stock. Parts are expensive yes but you can do a lot for a little as well 3si.org , 3kgt.com , stealth316.com have really good info. I love the top end, handling and launching in the vr4. Having rod knock isnt a good thing, stock bottom ends support 900hp, I'd have him fix it. depending if a bearing has spun or if you can just change the bearings. Vr4's arent high maintance as many claim. if you want some personal info hit me up

The 3000gt is such a sick looking car though. Never have been a big fan of Mitsu however. Their tenancies to burn oil/smoke has always kept me away. Im sure their newer models are fine, and people are putting down some sick numbers with evo's. However, like everyones said, those things are freaken leadsleads.

You gotta think though, how much is it going to cost you to rebuild the bottom end? Take that cost, and subtract it from the KBB value of the VR4. Then compare that to the price of your s14, and see how the numbers look.

On the otherside, VR4's still are really desirable. Those things dont stay on the market for long. If your idea was just to flip the car, you couldnt ask for a much better candidate.

Like I said I am really torn. The guy has just replaced the turbos and he said he drives the shhhit outta his car. I also do the same with mine. I have never worked on a vr4. And I am thinking that it is a huge undertaking. I am gonna be finished with my car tomarrow! The headgasket should have it driving again. He is gonna give me 1000 plus the swap. I just dont know! I have been looking and I would just probably sell the vr4 after I was done. I think it depends on how my car runs when I am all done! I still gotta go check out the vr4!

i wouldn't do it.

you do not wanna be left in the middle of the highway because your timing belt snapped or something along the lines of that.(sorta true story, my eclipse did that to me)

the 240 is a whole lot easier to work on too, + the 240 is a better all around car, you could probably do ka-t for less and be just as fast if not faster than the vr4, could even swap an ls1 and be much faster, cheaper too,lol and still handle well.

Rod knock at 65,000 means he has serious issues. The 3S is a good motor, but it weighs more then I'd EVER want a performance car to way. They are NOT that fast. When they do become quick, they crap trannies.

Keep the S14. Or I'll BAN you...

Dude Keep the nissan. I had a mitsu B220 and an eclipse, Both Smoked and burned oil. Rebuilt the eclipse 3 times with only 100K on it before dragging it down to the junk yard. Then i got a nissan pulsar (boy that was a fun little car). it had 220K on it before i sold it. Since then i've had a 87 and a 95 nissan p/u all high miles. now i have 95 ka-t and a 00 Frontier (145k work truck and the only thing i fixed on it since i got it new was the battery and a rad hose). I wouldn't own anything else, nissan for life.

NISSAN ROCKS!!!!!

The Vr4 are fun to drive and are fast but i would not suggest not to trade your s14 for one. A friend of my has one it has alot of problems.

BOO for 4 wheel steering too. Keep the S14. Trust me as soon as get rid of the 240 you will want it back, but I know your going to keep it anyways.

Take me for instance, my S13 got crashed I was like ok no big deal I have another car, but inside I was pissed as **** and it is now less then 5 months and I'm an owner of another S13 LOL.

I just can't stay away from these cars.

93 and below suck only 300hp and they are slow. if it was a 94 - 96 i would fix it and either keep it or sell it for a lot of money which is really what i did trust me the 240 is alot more fun plus you can literally put almost any engine into it if you want super fast speed.so i say dont do it

Not that I know alot about the topic at hand.. But I once heard.......

....that the VR4 and the SL are about as fast as eachother. The SL has like 200hp and none of the AWD crap/weight.

So the only plus to having a VR4 is the AWD.

But to me, both are rubber band powered, minivan motor havin', lead sleds'.

They are a PITA to work on compared to the 240sxs. FWD platform with a getrag transaxle.. .. sorta interesting.

They can be very fast.... at a certain cost. Got a buddy of mine who has one with over 500 whp. Funniest thing to see all four tires peal out being FWD driven. Power distribution is front bias. We've got the thing to go around 190 mph.

Like I said, fast but comes at a price. and Its heavy- MBZ heavy

Dnt trad it because you can put almost nething in an s14. Like make it a r14 then you can beat that 3000gt's *** becuase they are too heavy and you will be fast off the line and also be lighter than that will ever be
