Anyone know when the trade-in value for 2008 Altima's will become available through KBB? Is it exactly one-year after the car's release?... I think that would put the 2008 Altimas somewhere around May.

Also, does anyone have some knowledge on how trade-in's work over time? For ex.,

let's just say an a/c is worth 24K new on first day of release, 20K after one year from model first being released, and 16K two years later. How about one and a half years later?.... Does KBB adjust the value to 18K, or rather does is stick at 20K all the way until the third year is reached (with the only adjustment being made of mileage)?

If what I'm getting at above is true, then my timing on purchasing a 3.5 SL might have been really bad. I just got it in March for near invoice, but now that I'm thinking differently it will most likely depreciate the full 20% just a couple months from now.... Although of course all cars lose value immediately after driving off the lot, it seems like a better move financially to purchase a car as soon as possible from when it is first released. yay, nay?

Cool, thx very much for the info on the values being updated monthly. I guess next time I goto a dealer I will keep an eye on both KBB and Edmunds trade-in values, so much easier than selling to a private buyer.

Very cool man to hear that u have bought what, 23 cars now? I have been buying and then trading in my cars every year now for the past 2 years, hoping that I am not starting a bad habit, but I think as long as you get invoice price and a good trade-in value then financially the dollars are similar to leasing a vehicle.

One other idea I had to stop my foolish cycle of buying new cars is just to have two, and try to get a discount on insurance. One like a 350z or a/c for fun and summer, and one like a camry with luxury interior for the winter.

thx
