Trade-in an 01 QX4 for a new EX35?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi, I'm considering trading in my 01 QX4 for a new EX 35. Seekng opinions. Will EX 35 do equally well in snow (live in CT). Thinking about it because I'm thinking a year from now it will be worth zilch on a trade-in. What would you estimate worth of 01 QX4 (46,000 original miles, beige, beige leather, no nav, premium sound, roof rack, no dings dents, looks new). Dealrship says about 9K. Seems low?? Thanks.

Being a Dealer myself, let me give you hints....

Always trade-in deals are considered win-win case to dealership. I would do a separate deals on those vehicles, Honestly, i do not think your car is worth $9000 for a trade-in value, there must be a trick for them to make enough money on the car you are buying to cover the Over Allowed negative value on your QX. Sell the vehicle first or after you buy EX at a good deal. Without the trade you would have much easier process of barbaining.

Also, good thing to try, ask the dealer(who told you $9k for trade) how much they would give for your QX if you decide not to buy car from there, make an excuse as I want to buy BMW or something.

Trust me, i know how they make deals... being in Dealership management for 6 years and 8 yrs in total in car selling business.

Simply, there is noway for you to get a decent price on your EX if they pay you $9000 for the trade.

and also I am very sure you will find a personal buyer who would pay $9000 for your QX.

feel free to ask any questions...

Jason

you need to sell that QX4 private party. these days sites like autotrader make it way too easy to sell it yourself. trading it in just lets you pay the dealer for your laziness....and you WILL get ripped on the trade. It is not the dealer's job to be a charity and they will make money off the deal at your expense.

I dont know if the price is right, however I traded mine in for $10,500 with 93k on it, similar feature set and felt it just wasn't worth the effort. Also, I feel the EX is very good in the snow, however for stuck snow driving it is not as good. Once you get moving, I feel the EX is a better car in the snow due to the different electronics, and better 4 wheel drive system. If you are looking for something that is better than the QX4 in snow, I would consider looking at the FX.

Thanks.-Dave

Since I'm in Canada, I can't comment on the QX-4's value, but as far as capability in snow:

a) ALWAYS use winter tires - the right tires can make MORE of a difference than 2-wheel vs. AWDb) I found the EX performed adequately in snow. Having driven various AWD systems since 1990, my opinion is that Audi is #1, Subaru is #2. The EX is about on par with Volvo's system, both of which are far superior to VW's old Synchro (don't know about their current offerings).

Cheers,David
